Desegregation laws eliminated the legal barriers to integration.
but in the democrat run south, Integration did not happen until they were FORCED to do so.
thus, in areas where segregation laws were removed and nobody complained, Integration happened naturally.
in areas that never participated in government sponsored segregation, black clubs operated to the exclusion of white patrons in harlem, black bars made clear that white drinkers should go elsewhere, and various other black only establishments enabled the coloured population to be free from the downpression of The Man, and even allowed them to pretend for a little while that they lived in a black only world (as seen today only on BET and reruns from the WB)
in areas run by the democrats, Integration was resisted violently, particularly by your oft-quoted hero, "The Little Judge" as you so affectionately call him, George Wallace, and thus Integration was FORCED on them.
