The whole point behind hybridisation was to stabilise the Sativa genes and make them more robust, you should go do some research into how 'Sam The Skunkman' created 'Skunk No 1' and ran 100.000's of plants in the 'torture tests' to find a suitable Afghani male.

Hybridisation produces superior plants with a more complex psychoactive effect, fact!

Cannabis originated in the Hindu Kush mountain range along the range in Afghanistan to Pakistan, seed then travelled through China to Russia were nearly half of the country is within the Arctic Circle. The plants that populated Russia then evolved into an autoflowering genus to survive in such a short season,very similar to the way in which the seed that travelled the opposite way through Africa and South America evolved into Sativa's to utilise the longer flowering seasons.

So FYI 'indica' came first I'm afraid and the Cannabis that the Chinese have been using in medicine for over 5000 years certainly wasn't 'Sativa' either!

You do know that indica dominant hybrids were first created in the US with the advent of indoor growing, right? Them cali hippies started crossing the sativas they grew from columbian/jamaican/mexican/thai bagseed with the afghan and north indian strains so that the plants could be grown more easily in northern climates and indoors. This was in the mid to late 70's, afaik. AFTER that many of these new hybrids were introduced in the Netherlands (as well as seedless growing), and THAT's when the Dutch cannabis scene began. While it is a fact that pretty much all Dutch weed today is contaminated with Afghani genetics, it's not fair to blame the Dutch for it...Americans were the first to start diluting your beloved Sativas, not the Dutch. Frankly, I pity the Dutch because due to the masses of afghani crosses commercially available there almost no Dutch stoner even knows that Sativa's smoke differently...they just assume that all weed makes you sleepy...

Personally I usually prefer Sativas and Sativa dominant hybrids, but I often feel like smoking an indica too...like after dinner or before bed...and that's not event counting the medical use...

The first ever stable hybrid was created by David Watson aka 'Sam The Skunkman' and was/is called 'Skunk No1'.

Sam may have started out in North America with 'Sacred Seeds' but he didn't finish working on the strain until he got to the Netherlands and founded 'Cultivators Choice', it is here were 'Skunk No1' was released and won the first 'Cannabis Cup'.

An American living in The Netherlands created the first hybrid, to clear things up.

Was this Barneys Acapulco Gold? I was looking for the real deal, as that's what I was smoking back in the 70s...Acapulco and Columbian...and I've had a hankering for it. But I've read that the strain has been lost. How did it turn out?

No chit i had the red and gold full of seeds Damn sure wish id kept em, they would worth a fortune.

This was in 76 and a lb was 200bucks and 2ozs of seeds in each lb.Still remember little black with tiger stripes

im just gonna quote this post every time someones says something bad about indica or sativa. hating a sativa or an indica is like hating a black guy cause hes black. if you know anything about evolution, you know this, most everything evolved from an original gene source at one point in time(long long ago) there was no indica or sativa, it was just cannabis

the guy above is probably right it was indica before it was sativa. is sativa better? no. just differently adapted. as far as hybrids go, what ever is dominant(sativa or indica) after growing and overall amongst a population of plants that is pretty what it is(sativa or indica)

so in essence you can prefer a type of cannabis if you want, but they both are equal in different ways adapted to their environments. but hating a cannabis plant based on sativa or indica is pure foolishness as either one can show the others traits.
