I personally think Cody Wilson was set up for pissing the government off.

Here are the facts, make your own mind up but I think it's pretty obvious what happened.

Cody Wilson met the girl via a sugar baby site and she clearly lied to him about her age.
She is 16 and the age of consent in Texas is 17 (the minimum age is 14 with an age differential of 3 years), so she's less than a year younger than the age of consent in the state that they had sex.
It's not like he's a fucking peado, he was clearly duped.

He faces charges of Statutory Rape because the girl is under age, although there are no repercussions for the sugar baby website for failing to vet the girl and check her age to avoid exactly this kind of situation in the first place.
The girl deliberately joined a sugar baby site and then went to the police after she had consensual sex with Cody Wilson, despite her being within the age of consent in most of the USA.
Why the fuck would the girl intentionally join the site, have consensual sex with Cody and then go to the police to file a sexual assault claim based entirely on the fact that she was coincidentally under age in the state he lives in without having an ulterior motive?
It makes no sense at all.

So now we get down to the interesting stuff and the real point of all this......

Cody Wilson inventing 3D printed guns is old news, it's not even relevant any more.
But what is relevant is that Cody Wilson's company Defense Distributed now make and sell desktop CNC machines called the Ghost Gunner for $2,000 that take an aluminium 80% finished AR-10 or AR-15 lower receiver and do all the machining needed to turn that chunk of metal into a 100% finished AR-10/AR-15 lower receiver in a couple of hours, these machines also finish 1911 pistols.
The lower receiver is the only part of the gun considered a weapon and as such is the only part of the gun that has a serial number on it if bought legit (the rest of the parts can be bought off the shelf at Walmart by a child), the serial number is there only for tax purposes.
Having an untraceable weapon is not the problem because making your own gun is perfectly legal, the problem is that Cody Wilson is enabling people to mass produce AR-15 lower receivers and 1911 pistols in their own home, thus depriving the government of the tax money on every one made and the law is entirely on his side.
The governments recent propaganda and fear mongering concerning "ghost guns" is directly because of Cody Wilson, it's not about crazy fuckers shooting up schools with untraceable guns (because like I said making your own gun is legal), it's simply about money.

So what do you do when an ingenious guy and his company have given the people a way to mass produce the most popular gun platform in the country for a very affordable price, thus potentially depriving you of millions of dollars in tax revenue and there's not a damn thing you can do about it?

The way the current climate is in the USA you set him up to be sent to prison for a very, very long time, simply by getting a girl to #metoo him.

he ran away to Thailand, where it's legal to fuck 15 year olds, and got in trouble there for the same thing immediately...but no, he's not a pedophile....

the problem is taxes? oh, and i thought it was perhaps that there was no way to keep these homemade weapons out of the hands of the insane, terrorist, kids, career criminals.....and no way to track who makes them, sells them, buys them, or uses them to commit crimes...

So the girl is less than a year younger than the age of consent IN THAT STATE, not all of the USA.
The age of consent in Oklahoma is 16 and also in Arkansas it's 16, so he could have driven her to a hotel in one of the next states to Texas for the consensual sex and it would have been ok.

The serial number is only put on the lower receiver for tax purposes, it's an added bonus the serial number is registered to someone, but that still doesn't stop anybody from unlawfully killing with a registered weapon.

There is no way to keep these home made weapons out of the hands of the insane, terrorists, kids ext anyway.

Like I said, it is perfectly legal to make your own weapon with no serial number in the USA.
It is the exact reason why 80% finished lower receivers exist in the first place (they're made by the same legit company's that make the finished ones), they can be bought all over the USA and finished with hand tools by anybody with a couple of brain cells to rub together.
Any argument for tracing guns and keeping them out of the hands of undesirables holds no water at all.
I'll say it again, IT IS PERFECTLY LEGAL TO MAKE YOUR OWN GUN IN THE USA WITH NO SERIAL NUMBERS OR REGISTRATION!
Only guns bought from licensed dealers must have serial numbers and be registered.
YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN!

It's possible to make many guns out of scrap metal with hand tools.
Shotgun, semi auto pistol, full auto pistol, full auto machine gun, STEN gun, MAC 10, MAC11.
All with smooth bore barrels so the bullet's would have no rifle marks to trace to the individual weapon.
It's also possible and very easy to make your own ammunition in various calibers for said guns by hand.

To control guns you would need to control the knowledge of how to make a gun and that is impossible.

You can't control knowledge and thoughts.



So yes, Cody Wilson got a Federal Firearms License and gave 3D printer plans away for free.
The government tried to stop him, he sued them and won.
Then he sold the people the means to mass produce their own AR-15 and 1911 receivers without giving the government any money and it's all perfectly legal.

You bet they're pissed off at him.
