I ordered a 6inch duct fan (the real one, not that inline crap) off of a seller on eBay, digital_grow, and the bearings started going bad after 5 months of continues use. I emailed the guys and they had a new one to me in 5 days. Free shipping. They just asked for pictures of the thing, so I took them and sent them. I didn't even have to send the old one back. Amazing. I'm running their ballast right now. Brand is HydroCrunch

In line fans are the good ones, "booster" fans are garbage.

Booster fans present fake numbers to trick buyers into getting them... they only achieve high airflow when put in a vent with a furnace fan to help push them.... hence booster....

The big mountable centrifugal beasts is where its at.

I've heard them called duct fans, inline fans, centrifugal fans, but this is what I'm talking about. What the hell is the *proper* term for this thing anyway? Lol, I should know this, I've focused too much on plant science. Seems to be a lot of confusion out there though as well.



Edit: This is also called a duct fan, but I consider it an "inline" fan, not what I'm referring too, I've heard horror stories on these. Good as a booster maybe, at the end of the line, or the middle.

Top is an in-line centrifugal duct fan.

Bottom is a duct booster fan.

Top goes 400-500cfm of air movement in optimum conditions. For cooling grow rooms/tents, light hoods, and running carbon filters.

Bottom..... WAY lower.... 40-50? Some as high as 120.... But the numbers they report are like 240-360 n shit, but thats when installed into a closed system, like dropping one behind your bedroom vent... they 'boost' air flow better than generate it. Great for intake... got an 8" fan exhausting, put a 6" booster with a filter as an intake.... I use one to move warm air from my veg room to my flower room for exhausting.

Thanks for the clarification. +like. I have a 6 inch inline centrifugal connected to my filter connected to my light. And a 4 inch inline centrifugal for active intake. Works well. Temps in tent are about 10+ at the canopy than the room temp. But I have an AC in there that keeps at 70 all day long.

So in the two weeks I've had it the new iPower failed to turn on once via the timer, so I replace the timer

But over the weekend it failed to turn on again, plus another time I found it off after it had fired, so I'm dealing with Amazon now..

I told them I'll take another one of the same, getting a working unit is a crapshoot anyway, but that's what happened with this unit ..so far :/

So the second iPower 1000w ballast did the same thing!?!

I've tried two different timers, including two new ones that I bought for this reason

I find the timers live and working properly but the fucking iPower ballast sits there and doesn't turn on???

I put the plug in & out a couple times and eventually it fires-up?? ..it's totally fucking up my cycle!

last night I was almost 2 hours late getting the light on.. second time that happened, and the first time with the first unit it was off almost all freaking night once!

Screw iPower!! I'm not even ever buying their lightbulbs

Edit: I bought another unit from Hydrofarm, their other units have served me well, it's 10 bucks more but obviously you get what you pay for I guess? Hope this one works:wall:

I bought a no name 400 watt ballast that came with a hps and a mh bulbs without a reflector. Picked a cord with a socket instead as I have one of those big umbrella hoods to use. Use it for my veg room.
Total price shipped to me was 90 bux
6 months later its burning bright.
Best deal I ever got for new equipment.

Ipower bulbs are cheap...I bought one just for a backup bulb in case for my 1000 waters.
I'm a sun master guy for years for bulbs but I buy them in person at hydro shops. Is good though to have back up bulbs laying around just in case one goes bad on me....as I do live in the boon docks.

This was the ballast?!? Obviously zero quality control

two-in-a-row have failed I have no idea why (never seen this?) new timers and it did the same thing with both the Old and the new timers

the timer turns on properly, the outlet is live but the ipower just sits there I have to pull the plug out and plug it in several times and eventually it will fire, cheap Chinese garbage!

For 10 bucks more I bought the same brand that I'm currently running from Hydro planet. They are a flatterer, different shaped unit so I at least I know I'm not getting the same junk under a different brand name (I hope). They've been running strong for 3 years

Return it and grab a different brand.
One of the longest lasting ballast I got is a iponiczone 600 watter.
Going on 8 years old and works just like day 1.
There not in biz no longer...there flying under a different name now.

Done. I'm sending them both back once I get my Amazon labels. I bought the same brand that I currently have several of for a little more money from hydroplanet. I won't buy anything from ipower ever

I've had my Vivosun for a year and a half without any problems. I did have to replace the Vivosun fan a couple months ago because it started to make noise. Sounded like a bearing was going bad.

I bought a no name ballast...400 watter from a Canadian seller on ebay.
Selected just a power cord with socket ...have to many hoods here lol.
Came with 2 bulbs.
Cost was close to 90 bux.
Runs quiet and no heat.
So far so good.....Its just some added light in a corner of one of my grow rooms.

Would have bought vivosun ballast, have bought their bulbs many times without problem but I liked the three power setting options better on the iPower unit

I bought Hydrofarm for 10 bucks more, it's coming tomorrow. I've got two of them now going on three years both, no more iPower for me! :wall:

I suspect they are all basically the same Chinese junk with no quality control, I read a lot of reviews before I bought and it seems so, I saw some with almost 40% negative! Hoping for the best from the new Hydrofarm unit o_O

The Vivosun I have has four settings. 250w, 400w, 600w, and Super Lumens.

*Update:

When the first iPower 1000w ballast came I liked that the power cord was several feet longer than the unit I was using

The new power cord was defective! I used it on the second iPower replacement unit also, and I used it on the current Hydrofarm unit too

When the new Hydrofarm unit also failed to fire at lights-on for the second time last night I realized it couldn't be the units

Replaced the faulty iPower power cord with the cord from the new Hydrofarm thousand watt unit and all is well now

tldr> faulty power cord

What a nightmare the simplest things can become.
