Is my dog depressed? Are my chicken weird?

Hi all,

Last december i got a 7 or 8 year oldgerman shepeherd cross from a doggery. He never barked much nor played since i got him.
Now i cannot remember the last time i heard him bark, he doesnt play no matter what you try, he always looks sad faced and he walks without power like. Hes never pulled the leash for instance while walking nor tries to play with other dogs. He spends all day lying in his dog house and sometimes not even with his best treat he comes out. Hes always been a bit like that but now hes all like that. Hes propper fed, walked twice a day and has way too much space to be about. What do you think? and what can i do?

My chicken are starting to become propper fucking weird. They roam all day everyday like feral creatures but for some reason whenever i get close to them they like go into either shitting or egg crapping position and stay propper still like asking to be pet. I proceed to do so and they just chill and make a kinda cute boc boc sound. Isnt that extremely abnormal?? You think they have a mental handicap?

chickens are the dumbest animals on the planet. nothing weird about that...

have you had your dog checked for heart worms? i would consider a trip to the vet. my last female shep got slow and seemed depressed in the months before her death (old age).

Perhaps your dog is jealous of all the chicken petting going on. Poor doggy...

guess it depends on the chicken/s... all of mine are/have been dumber than rocks, free range would walk straight up to tethered dogs and be surprised when the dog tried to eat them. i saved a few, and they went straight back to be decapitated...

and chickens are actually much smarter than we have ever given them credit for.

What came first, the chicken or the egg ?

I have to agree with you. Im pretty sure they are affectionate now, and i think perhaps weirdly you build a relationship with them. Yesterday i was digging far away from where they usually kick about and one chicken cam to me and just chilled near me. She could be expecting me to chuck her worms though... however when none came she still stayed around. Also kinda cool how they make their own gangs among them.

The dog has always been like this, just that he used to bark sometimes before. Back where im from we have a saying that a dog that doesnt bark isnt a dog so after a not remembering him barking for the last time i thought its worrying. Im hoping its his behaviour but ill take him to the vet soon

its most likely his behaviour but best bet to take him to the vet. hes getting up their age too though so he might jsut be a calm down who likes to be lazy

8 can be old for bigger dogs. what the hell do you expect a chicken to do?

Sounds like he was severely and constantly disciplined before you, his spirit seems broken.....yeah he's depressed
