Gun owners are worried that registration will lead to confiscation. I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand I don't want them registered. On the other I've bought all firearms legally with a paper trail except a few that were gifts. I also have a ccwp.

I don't see it coming to that. Generally in the past when firearms were banned the ones already owned where grandfathered in.

If there is another assault weapons ban I don't see how it would work out. So many out there. 80% receivers. A 80% receiver is not considered a firearm and is the same as a paper weight to the atf. Its not until its milled out that it is a firearm. A person could order them and keep them put up.


Its sad. If it needs done it needs done. It was really unsettling when the family member with dementia was threating to shoot kids for just playing outside. He thought the kids where there to rob him.

I keep repeating, nobody who is seriously considering stricter gun control laws is discussing taking guns away from people who pose no threat. I can't help that gun owners are worried about that. I can't help that some gun owners hold irrational ideas. What I can do is repeat that taking guns away from peaceful people is not a consideration.

I think you'd agree that some people shouldn't have access to a gun under specific conditions. For example, gun owners can force the confiscation of their guns by menacing or beating or threatening their wife or girl friend and bring law enforcement down to collect their guns if so ordered by a court.

Regarding gun registrations, the idea behind them is to make illegal gun sales more difficult. For example, Illinois has strict gun sales regulations but Indiana does not. Guns confiscated after beint used in a crime are oftentimes new and come from Indiana or Wisconsin. People are legally purchasing guns in those states and selling them in Chicago. At this time, private sales aren't tracked, which makes this possible. One answer to tracking gun sales is to require guns to be registered to an owner at the time of purchase. The owner would be obligated under law to report the sale of that gun, just like we do with cars. Maybe you have an alternative to this? I'd like to hear it if you do.

That shit is no joke. When I was a kid the neighbor was shooting an ak47. Not sure exactly what happened but it exploded and tore the guys left arm to shreds.

This is why we need to take a systematic approach to gun control laws. The objective shouldn't to ban a gun, it should be to reduce gun homicides and other injuries or deaths due to guns to the level of other developed nations. The Dickey law has been used to block funding for research by the NIH on how best to do this. There has recently been changes made to the Dickey law and I hope that we will start funding research into how to address gun related deaths and injury from a more rational basis using objective information from studies and research by professionals on how to do this.
