Is this mother big enough to take 6 clones off her? (Pics)

I myself would never take a single cutting from a plant that size unless I simply had no choice but to try. Not much there to work with or be left with when you'd be done.

Id personally wait a while longer and possibly top or FIM and wait for more branching. My rule of thumb for clones is i always cut tops and I cut them at least 2 nodes tall usually 2 or 3 fan leafs and 2 sprouting blades at the nodes, I do the classic 45 degree angle but split up the middle about a 1/4 inch then dip into hormone. at such a small size id only get 2 clones off that I hop that was helpful im a new grower but Ive had good cloning rates so far

By the looks of it it has already been FIMed once.

If you wanna try crimping...........

Not with nails but just your fingers. the top will drop to a 90 degree angle. :) it will make everything even and grow faster.

Great suggestions from everyone, general consensus is not yet then. I'll let her grow out for a bit before I take any cuttings. (+rep everyone)

And special thanks to SxIstew and tekdc911 for going the distance with your suggestions! The pictures were really helpful. You're right, I've already FIMmed it once - you think I should still control the height more?

Lol, I don't mind pinching her, but I've got the 'new grower syndrome' - was quite reluctant to FIM her, but I know it's for her own good. Will the pinched branch always be limp though? The reason I ask is cause I keep the CFL lights pretty close - might have to raise them higher with the main stalk jutting out.

if it tears open a bit its fine it will heal
just gradually pinch it slowly adding pressure you'll hear a click/crunch and you should be able to just easily push it down
then you can tie it there and it will get stiff again

Another idea.... No pinch there^ cut it there, and clone it, so one clone will be older... I love cloning the tops of my plants that small... The top will then grow faster than the cut off portion, [the mom plant] will grow more roots, then explode with growth... I've cloned clone tops of plants as young as 17 days... Good Luck!

I don't believe you have stated the age of the plant...?
Is it from seed or is she a clone?
Regardless of size, you should consider waiting till the plant has reached maturity before cloning if from seed... usually takes about 2 months, sometimes less, sometimes more ;)

This will also define the sex of the plant and save you potentially cloning up a sausage fest ;)

Some say maturity of the mother makes no difference to the potential growth, development and potency of a clone... but I respectfully disagree from my experience.

2 months from seed also gives you plenty of time to top and create more branches to take healthy clones from.

But this is just advice... your own personal experience will teach you the greatest wisdom ;)

Cheers Jimmy.

Crimp it like I said. Don't top it. You can have a plant like MY BLUE DREAM. 60+ tops. and all clonable.
took more than 20 clones off her in under a week after her initial "super crop"/Crimping.

Thanks, Sand4x105, but I'm looking to have 6 clones so I can ScroG; having one clone that grows faster won't help with the height issues methinks. Thanks for your suggestion though, I wish I had known a year ago when I ditched a perfectly healthy top. =P

Hey Jimmy thanks for joining in; I've got an ongoing grow log on my signature, you can check it out. She's from seed, feminised, about 40 days old, so I don't have to worry about sausage fests coming up. I think 2 months sounds about right, I'll wait it out. =)

Damn that's some serious weed you got growing there Stew! And they're a wonderful shade of green too. I'm planning on going ScroG though, and I'm going to fruit the clones. Hopefully I can have a harvest every 2, 3 months or so. You can check out the setup on my grow log (signature). Thanks for the advice!

If she is mature, then I would agree with the pinching ;)
Or you can top above the second node and use the top as a clone, also works just fine ;)
How you train a plant is all about the purpose of the plant ;)
Good luck!

Cheers Jimmy.

Why do you want multiple clones from an unsexed plant?

Jimmy- typicaly mj plants grow double branches when they are young, and then single branches as they mature.
