Issues: Germination Proccess

I had six seeds that were able to float when placed into a cup half full of water. That indicated that the seeds were OK. Not only were they okay, they were in amazingly perfect condition and untouched by human hands! They were the cleanest, most toned, seeds I have ever came across.
They were left in the cup of water for a few days (over 48 HRS.). The seed sunk, but never cracked and/or sprouted a white, crystalized root.
I wasn't going to leave the seeds in the water any longer, because I was way too eager to test them out. They were still as hard as a rock, yet not just as hard as any pebble, but a stone. I cracked the seeds open, finally, and the insides were wet, but not mushy.
What happened?

Why did you crack them open and not plant them instead? If they sunk to the bottom, it means they were ready to be planted.

I read in a growth journal that the seed must crack a root, while it's placed in the cup of water, before it is planted.

Dude
U only stress your plant by change the place(root)
if u like use Jiffy pellet

Yo dude you left them in the water too long!
I don't do it that way but I think as soon as
they sink you take out of the cup of water and
plant'em or whatever you do with them.
I use the baggie and paper towel method
of germination and it the same way if you wet
your paper too wet they turn to mush, if it's
not wet enough you can add water but if you put
too much you F'em up!

I know that you do not crack them open, but I was wondering why that hadn't sprouted a root yet.
Once they sink, do I plant them, or keep them submerged in the water until they sprout a root (while in the water), then plant them?

I read you plant them when they sink. Id suggest papertowel method so you don't rot the seeds.

You should of just planted them... Do you think they have someone to crack them open in nature. Hell I dont even germinate, I just directly plant my seeds in rockwool never had one not sprout.

when you do it this way do they always come right side up?

my suggestion is to put the seeds where they will grow
paper towel = unnecessary risk for a beginner

they have thus far for me. I've never had one not sprout, never had one come up the wrong way. I just pop them in pointy side down in a rockwool cube and put it in a humidity dome. 72 hours or less poof sprouted.

Hey dude...
I read some about your germination way .... Any change place for root is way to stress your plant....
Really no one like to stress plants .I use JIFFY PELLET its work awesome and very very easy to move your plant in big pot.
I germinate about 100 seeds in JIFFY PELLET and I think 3-4 seeds didnt crack.
best wishes
