Just got my first HPS light, need some tips

hello everyone,
Prior to today I was an LED grower, but today I made the choice to add a 600w HPS light to my grow room. I know they can be really good combined (LED And HPS) But I’m not entirely sure how the lights should be setup together. I have a ballast with the light that is also capable of going to 50%, 75% or 100% power, I have it left at 100% for now. I have a digital Lux meter but I’m not sure if the readings on it are relevant between the 2 light types, I’m trying to figure out how to measure the intensity of my lights and maximize effectiveness. I have my HPS in the middle on 100% power with 4 LED lights in the sides, pretty much making a giant rectangle, each led is around 200w from the wall true power draw. I have 9 LED lights total, 4 COB and 5 full spectrum, but obviously not all are plugged in at the moment.

Just looking for the best combinations or some tips from you more experienced growers

I also noticed a buzzing sound and my mechanical timer not moving with the HPS ballast plugged into it so i has to teach myself to use the 7 day digital timer it comes with, I read if you don’t use a heavy duty timer this can happen with ballasts

Thanks for all the input

Well I would let the HPS get a 3x3 area in the middle and use the best yielding LED's at 35 wall watts per sqft around it.

Maybe even add the leftover LED's as side light once the plants get big and start flowering.

How big is the area your lighting up with all these lights?
I would hang all higher than normal to get a good mix of light sources across your canopy.

Rule of thumb for HPS is if you can place your hand at canopy level without having to move it away then the light is not too close.
I would stick to running it 100%, dimming and boosting is a gimmick, bulb life shortens. Its cool if the ballast runs at 400 - 600- 1000w or 250w - 400w - 600w because you can change bulbs to match those settings but if its in percentages I would just run at 100%.

Keep an eye on your timer, the surge can kill a standard 7 day timer and ballast may stay on or off if that happens.
