i just found these very old lamps and they are in mint shape (except the patina on base). everything i can find points to them being a fortune.

its a pair. one has a makers mark (pictured) that says made in germany glass and has a star in the center.

magnet sticks to the base.

Hey I hope they are worth a shitload of money bro! Go pay someone to apraise it and see. I doubt anyone on this site could give you a good answer!
 
i have posted similar threads on a couple antique message boards. im waiting for a response from them. i just posted this one for shits n giggles.

its been mine since i found em the other night.

after a bunch of research, everything about these scream top dollar.

similar ones i have found in older auctions have gone for 2-6000. thats for one. i have the pair.
 
The one in the picture right above Howard looks to have had it's cord replaced. Notice the single molded male plug on the lamp? It is a molded plug, indicating it's been replaced. The lamps appear to be from the 50's or 60's. The 'Made in' marks weren't required on imports until after WWII, which ended in the late 40's. Art Deco style table lamps that are artistic and from the 20's and 30's are highly sought after, however there is virtually no market for full sized table lamps. Even more troubling is that you don't have a pair of lamps, and the condition of the shades is unknown. If I were to place a value on these, I think you might be able to ask about $20-30 for a complete lamp, if it were in great condition. You call those mint, however the condition looks otherwise to me. At auction, you might be lucky to get $5 each.

This guy just gave the best advice possible. props to you Howard.. great advice.

I mean it really is.. the best thing for him to do with those antiques (any antiques for that matter) is to take them to a professional appraiser, find out what they actually are and how much they're worth (if anything at all). If they are worth some money and you end up wanting to sell them.. you should then take them over to a professional auctioneer that has a low house % (whatever percent they charge for the sale). That's his best bet.. to be able to do the best he can with them.

That's why you sell possible antiques that haven't been professionally appraised to complete idiots and tell them a bogus story about how you found them to make them think they can rip you off. :D
 
These Dolphins are the fish, also known as Dorado or Mahi Mahi, not the sea mammal many people are familiar with. They are the mythical attendants to Poseidon, the king of the sea. The same dolphins are used on the NAVY insignia for submariners.

however, regarding my comment on the lamps being mint, i was refering to the glass part of the lamp. im looking again and i still call it mint, there is no dulling or scratches or bumps etc...

Ah... I was looking at it overall. Saw the cord and it looks to have been in a house with cigarette smoke. Mint means brand new. Those don't pass the mint test. Also be careful they don't get over cleaned up. Never attempt to polish metals or remove lose paint or finish. For some reason, people like new stuff to look old and old stuff to look new... ;p

Good luck on the lamps, I just got a feeling that there is nothing much to see here. :( I'm no expert and I hope I'm wrong.
