A taxi from downtown is only about 5 miles but with the traffic the meter could easily read 50 bux by the time you get there 20 minutes later. I am bothered by the lack of a posted schedule. I can't go both days and unless they post a schedule of when the cultivators forums are I am not going to go. It seems like there was a schedule up for about a week but when they changed locations the schedule disappeared. I hope that means some of the growers don't like this location and they aren't going to show up!

Um... If anybody is ok with public transportation in L.A there is a bus from Downtown to Glendale Studios "the 92" and let me tell you being medicated on the MTA can be one hell of a trip. haha

You could do a whole stoner movie just covering the trip on the bus and it'd be hilarious.

That is actually a pretty good idea. Two or three stoners who don't know the event was moved but have to get there in time to meet someone or get to the awards show or something like that. Chronicle their adventures through LA as they try to make their way to Glendale. Scary bus rides, a wrong turn into east la and an encounter with cholos. A tranny hooker in hollywood, etc.

I have the same problem... Having a friend rent a car now.
In L.A. that is ALWAYS the best option.

Heads up to no locals...Glendale is a zero tolerance city and I have no idea why on earth they would chose Glendale out of all cities to host the cannabis cup. Just a heads up that the city itself does not support medical marijuana and has never allowed a dispensary in their city.

Looks like Glendale is trying to cancel the event...

City seeks to block event via courts, but venue owner says he'll cancel it anyway.

By Veronica Rocha, veronica.rocha@latimes.com

February 13, 2013 | 8:52 p.m.

City officials are asking a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge to issue a temporary restraining order against the organizers of a two-day marijuana Convention set to start Saturday at a sound and film production studio in South Glendale.

City Council members held an emergency closed session Tuesday night to stop organizers from hosting the Medical Cannabis Cup — an event organized by High Times magazine — contending the use of the space does not comply with municipal codes.

City officials are concerned that organizers plan to use Glendale Studios in the 1200 block of South Glendale Avenue for live performances, which would include rappers The Game andRedman.

Glendale Studios, Garcia said, is zoned for broadcast and recording, not for concerts.

Another issue is that the event doesn't comply with the city's ban on medical marijuana dispensaries, which are prohibited in all zoning districts.

“Obviously, our ordinance defines dispensaries broadly,” he said.

Steve Makhanian, who runs Glendale Studios, said Wednesday that regardless of any court injunction, he planned to cancel the event because the city was “not happy” organizers had not pulled the proper permits.

“As a studio owner, we can't jeopardize having this event here,” he said.

Local dispensaries, clothing companies, hydroponic businesses and marijuana paraphernalia retailers were slated to the showcase their products at the event, said Rick Cusick, associate publisher of High Times. Actor Tommy Chong — costar of stoner comedies “Up in Smoke” and “Still Smokin'” — was also expected to be honored with a lifetime achievement award.

Cusick said the event is “unusual all over the place.”

Organizers had created restrictions to limit access to marijuana, which would be available for sharing only by medicinal-marijuana-license holders in a cordoned-off tent area, Cusick said.

Panel discussions on marijuana laws, cultivation and culture were also scheduled.

I just sent an email to the Mayor of Glendale asking him to intervene on the behalf of the MMJ community and American freedom. Here is some info and his email. Please send him a polite message asking for his help and ensuring him that we are grownups that know how to behave well in his city.
