Lack of Water/Drought Stress

Hello all,
In the past I have been a hydro guy, but recently I switched to soil. And I have to say, I like the soil much better, less hassles, etc etc, but not opening that can of worms...
What I'm wondering about is drought/lack of water stress...
I am using these 4" square pots for my seedlings through sexing, currently I am 7 days into flower/sexing. So naturally, as they got bigger, they are about 10" now, they are using more water, especially with elevated temps and CO2. I'm having a bit of a time keeping them watered good because I travel twice a week and usually when I get home they have started to wilt.
Ok, here's the Q... I have heard through the years that drought stress can cause a plant to turn male, is this true? Can a vegged plant going into flower be stressed enough to be male? And here's the real kicker I wonder about...if it IS so, that they can turn out male because of the stress, what about the clones I have taken off the same plants that AREN'T stressed?
It doesn't seem logical if the stress is what caused the sex determination, that it would apply to the non stressed plants? :-?
Ok, lets get this discussion rollin'...bongsmilie

The stress would turn them hermie not male, and i dont think your other clones that arent involved in the 1212 cycle have anything to do with the senario.

Sounds like you have been smoking some pretty good weed there my friend

No idea on your soil mix but you can try adding more perlite to help keep more water longer. The rest of what you typed hurts my brain and now I need to smoke.

........cosign, and I second the hermie notion...but if you have say 5 reg seeds i am pretty sure that neglectful treatment can decrease the rate of female plants being berthed

I third that, Hermie thing.
Increasing the level of nitrogen makes more female plants from Seed. A higher nitrogen level and lower potassium for the first two weeks increases females and low temps and high humidity increases the # of female plants. More blue light increases females and last, fewer hours(e.g. 14 hours) increases the #. Got it straight out of my bible, hope it helps!

But you should ask a mongo frog, he the man.

Ok, sorry for the hard read... The basic jest of what I was wondering was this:
I have heard drought stress can cause a plant to be male. The reasons I have heard was because of the harsh conditions, the plant thinks I NEED TO SURVIVE, I NEED POLLEN.
I have clones in a separate chamber and I couldn't see how IF that was true, how it would affect the clones. Obviously it couldn't, so... Of course you wouldn't know IF the stress caused the male determination, and therefore you wouldn't really have a true determination of the sex, because in that senario the unstressed plants could end up female.
And yes, I thought about the hermi aspect, and that seems most logical. But it still wouldn't carry over to the clones, so the clones COULD be normal.

Oh well, it was just a deep thought I had, it doesn't really matter lol.
Thanks for all the thoughts and comments,

Thanks for that bro... Are you talking about 14 hrs flower instead of 12? Or 14 hrs veg? I'm Cornfused lol

im pretty sure he is talking about veg, because I know moving from 24/0 to 18/6 helped reduce stress on my plants as they veg

Sorry bro I was talking about veg./ You propably already know all that shit...but just in case. I have to be reminded at times myself. Good luck Happygrowing!
