Always better to be safe than sorry... move them into your car. They will recover no problem.
Several strategies can be worked.
Light by day will prevent stress to the plants (electric company would have to run an audit, and at worse, just say you have had heat stroke before, and have the AC going...)
Determine the time of your choosing... a early afternoon one is generally best, say 2-3 pm, as the person is likely going to want to leave ASAP.

One can always, just claim modesty, and just state you have some private, and somewhat embarrassing stuff in there.... If need be, get some embarrassing stuff to put in the closet... seriously, a strategically placed blowup doll can sure do a lot to sway suspicion or even prevent people from plain looking further... Sure it will make them think weird of you, but hey, they won't evict for a blowup doll for damn sure... I know many people who have used such tactics to protect themselves without fail. Now if there are any kind of issues in the closet, or you are in an area like I am where they inspect everything (earthquake damage must be inspected annually... then again it is cali, and I have the law on my side here).

The 'blowup doll routine' is great for any kind of unforeseen inspection, but for planned ones, you would be best relocating temporarily. If possible adjust light so it is light at day, so there is as little shock as possible. If plants are in stinky flower phase, well then car is about your only option. You could also see if a friend you trust can watch them for a few days. Personally, I think a new landlord would respect tenant privacy, and that the blowup doll routine would work plenty fine... but, it is your call, you know the situation better than anyone else could, hell I don't even know what part of the world you are in...

It really depends on the landlord. Have they came by before? If so, what did they check? Were they anal about every room, closet, nook, cranny? If so, move them.

My grandpa rents a house, and he just checked up on his renters last week. As soon as he walked in, the first thing he noticed was how clean the house was and that the carpet looked great. He then said he doensn't need to see anymore and just wants the rent money. He's not the type to check up on his renters tho, they were just late for rent this month. But my point is, if they're not anal, clean your fricken house spotless so it looks like you take great care of it. Mow your lawn too.

Get your shit out fast! The landlord has the right to look everywhere, excluding into drawers, boxes and such. Lame excuses about why they can't look somewhere just raises suspicions you don't need. Since it's a rental home, you did build everything to break down quickly just for this reason, right? Your plants should recover quick, so don't worry about it. Just DO IT!!!
Believe what I say, I'm a landlord and If someone told me I couldn't look in a room or closet, you can bet your ass I'd get in there one way or another. They are my houses after all.
Be safe, Stay free.

Like you said, they can't look into drawers, boxes, or any private/personal property.

If you put your grow into some kind of cabinet or box that could not be seen into, great. Just put them in boxes, put them in the closet, and put everything else into boxes/tubs, etc. Now if you are running a larger hydro system, you may have issues... but with a ScROG setup, just make individual supports for each plant, an gently box them up (do this at the end of the light cycle) a few hours before they come. This gives you time to box them, and cover the scent (good taping + some fabric softener sheets work great here) and hide it in plain sight. They won't go fucking about through your shit, unless you give them reason to. Also, consider making your place a tad... uncomfortable to be in... warm or cold, either way, make the landlord want to spend as little time there as possible, and make sure that you time it so that they are there when you know they will want to leave ASAP (2pm works great for this in most areas... as do friday afternoons...)

#1 get them out of the house. If not find the attic access and put them in the attic in a good spot. That landlord isnt sticking his nose up in the attic.

Depends on how big they are and how many. I would just put them in rubbermaid bins and label them "winter clothes" "bedroom stuff" etc so it looks like legit things being stored. Stack them in the closet (after its cleaned and doesnt smell like anything) or another part of the house that looks normal. You don't want a stack of bins next to your bed. They CAN look in your bedroom and closet if they want, if you're that paranoid then just get rid of them for a day.

All they're looking for is cleanliness though. They're not there looking for evidence of illegal activity. If you have pets, they're looking for scratched up rugs, walls and piss stains and smells. I had to hide 3 cats once.. I was only supposed to have one. LOL Open windows, have fans blowing fresh air in and circulating. You want it smelling clean. Do a lot of laundry so it smells like fresh laundry. If the house has carpet, vacuum and go by some Woolite to scrub them quick. Seriously, rug/carpets are one of the FIRST things they're going to notice and it will either stick out nice and clean or look dirty and dull. Don't be too stupidly obvious like lighting incense or candles. This will especially fail if you are a guy living by yourself.
