Well I was working so I didn't get to see this blow out of the water argument. Tell me what is considered adequate proper precaution in storing a gun? That is like putting guns in a glass case and saying, " well they are locked up, I did my part in securing them". No you didn't, someone can come by with a hammer and break the glass or you left the key laying around. Same thing goes with a safe. That's like saying I had all my guns in a safe, they were locked up, I did my part in securing them. A safe does no good if everyone in your family knows the combo. If someone is negligent in storing their guns and it ends up in a killing spree, the gun owner should be punished. Are you still trying to make this argument? We blew this out of the water a long time ago, it holds no water and only a fool would continue to try and use it.
Wouldn't someone have to commit a felony B&E before they could get to the case to get to the gun first? IF it requires you to break the law to get to my gun, then I have taken the proper precautions.Well I was working so I didn't get to see this blow out of the water argument. NoDrama, what do you consider responsible gun ownership when it comes to the storage of your guns?Wouldn't someone have to commit a felony B&E before they could get to the case to get to the gun first? IF it requires you to break the law to get to my gun, then I have taken the proper precautions.
Can you tell me, what exactly are the laws concerning proper precautions for firearm storage? Does it make sense to have my handgun in the vault if the handgun is to be used for home defense? How does one use a handgun in a vault when an intruder comes into the house hell bent on killing or raping? Do you tell him to wait while you go and get your gun out of the vault? That seem reasonable to you?
My guns sit in a vault, a big one, I have a dog, a high tech security system, a camera system with 18 cameras and 1 month recording time. All of this sits in a home which is locked and on 1380 acres with no trespassing signs posted.NoDrama, what do you consider responsible gun ownership when it comes to the storage of your guns?

Still think I am derelict in my duties?
Everyone in the home has access to the nightstand pistol or the shotgun behind the door. How is it possible to defend your home with a firearm if they are all locked up and inaccessible to anyone? Answer that one and they will all be locked up. I have many firearms because I collect them like people collect artwork or spoons from the various states. Guns are a good investment because they retain their value well. Hell, the price I could get for any of my AR-15's has doubled in the last week.Seems more than reasonable to me.
Do you have kids, and if so do they know the safe combo or otherwise have access to the guns?
I think you are taking the proper precautions. I think you should have a gun available to protect yourself. Sounds like with the safe you have their is no way no one can steal your guns. Unless the have a blow torch or a truck with a chain to pull the safe out. Neither seem realistic. So why can't all gun owners follow the same practices you do in securing your gun In the case of the newtown shooting he obviously obtained the weapon some how. He either got into the safe, or the guns were left out. If he was at your house he might have found a hand gun laying around, but he wouldn't have had access to all those guns you have. So unless we hold gun owners accountable, then lax storage of guns will continue. Believe me I realize this is a small piece to the puzzle, but if all gun owners took the precautions you do, then we might see some improvements.Wouldn't someone have to commit a felony B&E before they could get to the case to get to the gun first? In your opinion, what would be taking proper precautions for firearms storage?
FYI all my guns are locked in a vault, the door weighs 800 pounds and the walls are over 3" thick, To get in you have to dial a combination and provide a proper thumbprint. think that's not enough precaution?
It is not a safe, it is a vault. You can walk inside of it. You could not pull it out with a dump truck, bring explosives.I think you are taking the proper precautions. It is not practical for very many people to have a personal vault.I think you are taking the proper precautions. I think you should have a gun available to protect yourself. Can I ask you if we said you can have your guns, but we have to close gun show loop holes, ban online sales, get rid of extended magazine clips, have a mental evaluation, only able to purchase one gun a month and have a two week waiting period. Would you be opposed to that? What would you be for?It is not a safe, it is a vault. You can walk inside of it. You could not pull it out with a dump truck, bring explosives.
So criminals only target gun-free zones? News to me. More guns seems like the answer to me. Maybe the US will be criminal free, cause every criminal now won't rob a place that has guns, cause everybody has them. Maybe they will get jobs now. Holy shit... I think we just solved America's crime and fiscal issues everybody!!! More guns. The only thing that stops a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun.
Do you think the cops enroute to the school were going to put the shooter in a time out? You think they were going to try to taze him? Maybe negotiate with him? Nope... They would have shot him like the crazy dog he was.. Shot him with guns.
People keep thinking there is a solution, usually a government solution for every problem.
People are suggesting armed police officers at every school. What happens when some nut shoots up a school bus? Are we going to have armed cops on every bus then? What happens when a nutcase shoots up a chucky cheese? Armed guards at every kids birthday party? When does the solution become a bigger problem than the issue?
But having every adult at school, on the bus, and at Chucky Cheese packing heat is the answer? The only thing that stops a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun.

Well, a heavy ass safe will suffice. Is that all you got out of that post?It is not practical for very many people to have a personal vault.
I would oppose it, even with all of that you will never be able to regulate or otherwise make a dent in the ability of a person to just sell his gun for cash to someone else in a private TRANSACTION.Can I ask you if we said you can have your guns, but we have to close gun show loop holes, ban online sales, get rid of extended magazine clips, have a mental evaluation, only able to purchase one gun a month and have a two week waiting period. To sum up for you (if I may):I would oppose it, even with all of that you will never be able to regulate or otherwise make a dent in the ability of a person to just sell his gun for cash to someone else in a private TRANSACTION.
The gun show loophole as you put it is only for USED guns. Any NEW gun sold at a gunshow has to have a corresponding background check done just like anyone else.
Online sales CANNOT be transacted without going through a properly permitted and licensed firearms dealer who has the correct class III license. All the paperwork and background checks get done just as if you bought it at the gun store.
You cannot get rid of large capacity magazines, impossible. It is unconstitutional to make the ones that already exist illegal in any way, so that makes it impossible to ever get rid of them. They could make the manufacture and sale of them illegal, but not possession.
Mental evaluation? Might we also require those for purchasing knives? Chainsaws? Kool-Aid? all of these items have been known to be used to kill massive amounts of humans also. perhaps a mental evaluation every time you would like to speak your mind or perhaps a good government sponsored and paid psychiatrist to see whether or not you are mentally fit enough to be judged by your peers, or how about a nice man in a white coat to see if your mind is adjusted well enough to even have the right to life? Perhaps we ought to give a psych eval to every man woman and child just so they can exercise any constitutional right at all? If government doesn't like the way you think about it, then it can judge you unfit and then they can just lock you up, forever. no courts no lawyer, you don't get any of that because gubbermint said your state of mind is unfit for rights.
One gun a month? Perhaps only one religion a lifetime? After all why have rights specifically pointed out to us if we can just limit them to a certain frequency? How about only 1 trial a month, you get in trouble after that its automatic guilty of whatever charge and you go to prison? Or better yet, how about only once a month can you voice your opinion about government, the rest of the time you tow the line or its a felony?
Why even have any rights at all?
To sum up for you (if I may):
20 dead children every so often is just the price we must pay as a society so that everyone can own as many of any type of gun/ammo as they want.
Is that where you stand?
