LED breaks 200 lumens/watt!

Was reading up on the lumen/watt efficiency of different kinds of lights when I found some pretty recent news:

Cree, Inc. , a market leader in LED lighting, announces another industry-best reported efficacy record of 208 lumens per watt for a white power LED. This R&D result passes a significant milestone within the solid-state lighting industry as well as demonstrates Cree’s relentless drive to increase the performance of its LEDs.

200 lumens per watt! I'm not an LED grower but damn thats impressive. Compared to 400 watts of HPS, it puts out an extra 30000 lumens. (400W HPS usually puts out about 50000), this makes it over 1.5 x as efficient. I know 600 watt HPS's are the most efficient of HID lights, but just a comparison.
the LEDs rated at ~4600K, definitely usable spectrum for cannabis

wow smokey very clean setup :P

and no its not the best for flowering, but im sure similar colors will be coming soon. although i think kelvin rating has something to do with efficiency, and im sure its only this efficient with this specific color. for now, anyways

The numbers and stats for the led's sound great, but when you put them head to head with HID's there's no comparison.

thanks man...i have a buddy that used the same set up i have..he grew plat og kush..took it to a dispensary in LA and got 5200 a lb! These lights are gonna change the way we grow..

when i get them going i will have a detailed journal to shut all the LED haters up.

advanced nutrients bought the rights to the lights i have...and are going to be re-marketing them. you'll see them soon!

When they get the technology down someday and Im sure they will I would make the switch too but for right now there isnt a Led on the market that puts out as much intensity as a HID. Honestly the Led even at 200 lumens per watt its the totally wrong color spectrum that the plants doesnt even focus on those colors, it would be out preformed by a t-5. My buddy had a Led setup and it was good for veg but was junk when it came to flowering plants. Maybe it would work on a scrog set-up tho with the proper spectrums....still it has weak penetration

nah with LEDs the output is so specific that you need to talk about output in terms of nanometer frequency range, not kelvin. A "white" LED is useless, they need to be in the red / blues to get any major growth or bloom.

That being said, this is very promising. A friend of mine in the industry said LED tech right now is where CDs were when they first emerged. The rate of advances is going to be explosive, and the prices will come way down

they already have it..thats i why i bought these LEDs..trust me man. I have huge ops going and i use only HPS..but ive seen what these things can do, thats why I have a total of 6. The name of the company is Stealth Grow.

as soon as the clones are ready i will start a thread to PROVE what they can do.

I would definately tune in to that journal. i love the idea of less electricity and cooler temps but all the Led grows I've seen so far just isnt any comparison. But I would love to see what these new lights can do so please post a journal

most of the LEDs people are using are crap...Ive dished out 1100 a unit...its a bit pricey, but i live in a hot climate, and the cost of AC will roughly even out, and i wont have the headache of combating heat issues.

i wish i had the pics and vid of my buddies LED grow he did in LA..it was amazing..totally convinced me to make the switch.
