LED+CFL Closet Coco grow

Yeah, I'll take more pics inside the bush later today for you. It's a bit difficult to take the pics as her branches are sturdy and she is so bushy I have to pull apart the bush with one hand and try to snap a pic with the other while I am crouched down, plus the bush blocks the light so the interior is a fairly low light landscape (at least as far as my camera is concerned) so I have to try to stay steady, haha not easy when you just smoked some Sour Diesel BHO, ate a brownie, and took your daily dose of dex. :-)

Regardless, I'll post some shots later todaybongsmilie

On a side note... I've been reading up on coco fiber and it seems to have very good insulation properties and is actually used as insulation in commercial settings. I read that with coco you can have a much higher ambient temp because the roots are insulated and stay cool. I'm thinking this may be why my plant is doing just fine at 95-96ºF under the lamps. Does anyone have more info on this?

Coco also has a remarkable capacity to insulate and protect the plant’s root system in hot weather.

This means that coco coir isn’t as prone to overheating, due to excessive ambient air temperatures, as many other mediums, making it ideal for warm climates. Because the root zone is cooler, there is more oxygen availble for the roots to use. Watering with coco is different than with soil. If you grow in soil, it can be much easier to “drown” the plant with too much water. Coco on the other hand is so light that there will always be more oxygen left and the plant will have a much harder time being oxygen straved. You can let the pot become dryer the first week only to stimulate root development. We suggest watering your medium until fully saturated (with at least 10% ”run-off”) and then letting your plants go from wet to “barely moist”.

My first try at cloning with coco:

That's Canna, nothing added, 4" pots. About 10 days old I think.

I like the way coco sucks up the water. You can let it completely dry out and it re-wets just like it did when new.

Only downside is cost since it's coming from the other side of the planet :(

I'm going from those 4" pots to 3 gallon gro-pots. However I will add dry calcium and magnesium to the coco to pre-load it.

Check this thread if you haven't already: http://bit.ly/U5uh9O

I love canna coco! I also pretreat my coco before transplanting but with a little A & B and bunch of rhizotonic. Ask ed's coco guide is a good one, thanks for reminding me of that one, I also like the literature canna has on their website, in particular the member's only forum. it's worth signing up and reading. good luck with the clones, they look like they are off to a good start.

That's some crazy interior pics, sativa! I got lost in there for sure. Any plans to defoliate at some point?

Thanks!

Funny you mention defoliation, I am not sure if I want to do any pruning being this is my first grow, people usually suggest doing your first grow all natural so I was thinking of doing that.

I have read a fair amount about training/pruning techniques and my own thoughts were with this particular strain defoliation seems to be an excellent choice as it is very bushy but has a ton of growth sites, my growth sites have growth sites! So I think removing some of the big leaves would help them get more light. I have also read though that training and pruning can reduce potency, which I am more concerned with than yield.

I think the first grow I'm going to keep it natural and save experimenting for future grows but I don't know. What would be the pros/cons?

So I tested my runoff today for the first time and I think I have a problem:

Runoff PH is at 6.75
I tested PH just after feeding

I always feed her with 5.5-5.8PH and around 1280PPM

Runoff is 6.75PH and 4580PPM

Everything seems to be going ok. I feel like she should be growing faster but she still looks healthy.

Is this an issue?

***edit***
I'm reading on a few forums that testing PH in coco isn't really necessary unless there are problems.

Just took some measurements as well, She is 1ft tall and 2 ft wide :-)

I actually do not know it is a female yet, just thinking positively.

Bleuballz what do you mean by "In my opinion you should too her, and wait a while" I believe you may have meant top but I just want to make sure, I am only a little familiar with the process.

I wasn't planning on cutting any clones until she shows sex

I don't believe I can keep a mother as I only have 1 big closet I'm working in I don't have a separate room.
Yeah, freakin iPhone, sorry.
Yeah top her i meant. Late now. But as to what what's his name said above,
assuming its a girl, you WANT clones. In the pic it's too small for clones really. But if you don't wait for her to show you the sex,
you would cut clones to find out. But there is one in every thread I guess. Wtf?

Lol it's all good man. We got it under control regardless. Thanks for getting back though. If you didn't see I ended up cutting 8 clones and have recently started flowering :-)

About to go take some pics of her and the clones right about now. I'll post them in a few.

Something just came to mind.... Is it likely I will have to repot this lady again? Or is she probably good to go in the current container?

I've got roots on my clones, all 8 of them! Tomorrow will mark the start of week 2 flowering! Transplanted the clones into coco fiber in solo cups. Just tap water for now. Will post pics later.
