whats happenin puff has been a while eh? ive been spending most my time at another forum ......it was mentioned above ;) , well lets see what can i tell ya about this light ..... its from a new company ( cant disclose name yet.... i think lol) that i have been in touch with that is about to launch , the model im receiving is there "300W" model that runs 180-3w diodes plus fans and other components i believe it is just over 300w at the plug. i just emailed the company to see if or when i can release more details ..... shouldnt be a problem but i just wanted to run it by them first. if all goes well with this light i should be able to pull equal or better yields than an hps setup using significantly less power as i wont have to worry about A/C or any big inline fans , i plan on using a tiny 400cfm fan pulling through my can filter plus a small air king clip on fan and thats it. i will release all the details as soon as i hear back and i should be receiving the lights by next week so you will defiantly be hearing more on this glad to see your interested :)

Ok so i admit i havent read the thousand replies to this, but this LED post is old and the LED info at the start is probably old technology as it moves so rapidly.

My question is what is the best LED lights on the present market in the 400$-500$ as of March 2012

Actually someone did a comparison between led's and mh & hps...identical grow rooms...identical plants...same light schedule...same nutes...EVERYTHING totally identical...there was no appreciable difference in plant size...quality or yeild...the big difference was cost of electricity for the mh and the hps versus the led's, and of course the price of the led grow lights
...I think not...i run two blackstars, and hps...were the hps is more prevelant on the plants the buds are consistantly bigger FOR LESS ACTUAL WATTS than my led's........they will be soon religated to the veg room.

Thinking going DWC after seeing these day 18 fan blades @ 1:15 into this video. Wondering if anyone recommends an LED panel to supplement this lamp for flowering?

what up chaz , theres a few companies out there that make good led panels , blackstars are alright not the bestquality but good prices , pro grow puts out a decent light just dont listen to there lies about cree chips my advice is take you time and do your homework also i got some new panels in from a new company out of the UK and these things are top notch best panels ive seen so far and ive owned a spectra , magnum and chinese panel come check out the thread in my sig ill probly be updating in a bit here. also dwc is a good choice best results ive seen although im in coco on this run and its going amazingly.

A 2011 California Department of Transportation study of light fixtures for CalTrans office building determined that LED light efficiencies are routinely gorossly overstated ("false advertising" in the words of the Caltrans study) while the advertised efficiency (lumens per sq. foot at distance d) of fourescent tube fixtures was amazingly accurate in Cal Trans test.

In summary, the Cal Trans study consluded that LED are grossly overpiced and NOT superior to common flouro tubes in any way

btw - if I just had the $$$, I would switch from HID to very hi output t-5's so fast it'd make yo head do a Linda Blair spin around

thats a pretty broad statement bro , so just because these leds they tested were false advertised and overpriced that every one should just give up hope ....... HAHAHAHAHA! ya right man like i give a shit that they got ripped off , once further if ya had a link i might even give this a stroke of thought and how did they conduct this "test"? there are led companies out there that lie and there are companies out there that are honest its peoples own fault if they dont take the time to weed out the goofs. common flouros dont stand a chance against a good led panel no way no fucking how srry bro.

I don't think LED's are as inherently efficient as some people believe. Due to the nature of the bulbs you cannot really vertically hang them (actually current designs wouldn't let you at all) at high intensities, at least not at the moment. Perhaps in the future.

I'm quite sure you will get more production per square foot AND energy input hanging vertically with conventional HIDs than using LEDs horizontally.

heat is a big issue as well my friend and leds are plug and play no ballasts , as far as vertical you could go vertical with current led tech , some comapanie have already done it and if you DIY it is easy as shit to do vert. on top of all though spectrum ..... proper light gives proper growth cant get any more simple than that , hid's have alot of intensity but peak at shit parts of the spectrum hense all the waste.

The whole thing about LEDs reducing heat isn't true if you replace 600w of hid with 600w of led overall heat is going to be about the same. Its just spread out more with the led. Also you need more watts of led light to replace HID from what I have seen I have seen people pull 1.3 gpw with 600w hid in soil, never seen anyone with led yeild this good. And check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udD0uhRwMU8 this guy pulled 38.4oz with a 600w MH ! If you find and led grow that is this efficient and isn't marketing bull please point me to it.

I was thinking of changing to Led recently but changed my mind when I wasn't able to find any grows with decent yields.

I could build my own LED I guess. I don't really have the time to do that. And the light intensity relative wattage will still suck in comparison I suspect. You're getting 600w all the way around with a conventional bulb. Build a 600w LED and you're getting 150w on each side instead (assuming a box design, but you get the picture). I think their design is inherently flawed personally (for growing purposes), but we'll see how things develop. I do agree the spectrum of light they offer is good quality.

gotta disagree with you about the heat thing. my room with a 600w peaks @ 94deg ..... my room with a stealthgrow SG602 peaks at 82deg. that's a HUGE fricken difference IMO and come summer, I won't be spending big bucks on A/C ;) while those with HIDs will suffer greatly I'm afraid
