Let's talk serious SCROG

I personally utilize a vertical scrog in my fridge cab. I dont have pics ATM other then the empty cab to show how it is setup prior to grow. Since i just got a camera and im very internet/computer/Technology illiterate i will try to remember to post pics the next time the screen is filled up, but i can share the cab pic for now, sorry its dirty in these pics, it needed a good thorough cleaning. I cant take credit for this idea inside the fridge, i used to just run SOG, then i found the idea on youtube.

works great to use the space to its full potential and allows the CFL's that i use to get max potential as well.

the appropriate tape for just about everything in the grow room is foil duct tape. You'll find it in the HVAC aisle at HD. It is made from very thin aluminum. Its sticky as hell, actually sticks more when it gets hot, and won't dry out and fall off with age like duck tape will.

Its pretty much the bomb. Taping ducts, sealing hoods, repairing plants, making labels, I use that shit for everything.
Great tip, I'm a bit amazed I didn't think of it but glad you did!

My new buddy!! showed up to help a brother out.IMG_20110926_173457 (2).jpgIMG_20110926_173656 (2).jpgIMG_20110926_173549.jpgBack to the scrog part. Threw another in today. It's strawberry delight. should be fun running a sativa dominant and indica dominant on the first run. Still waiting on my new hood and rail. booooo

Here's a quick update for my 1X Royal-Haze Fem.. She's 12 day's into Flower & she's pretty much filled the whole screen now and is getting very bushy. I think maybe I should have put her into Flower a couple of weeks earlier... but hey, nevermind she's doing good.. I can't wait to see some buds start to appear, hopefully not too long to go - STELTHY :leaf:

Can someone tell me the benefit of a u shaped screen. My light is only 12" from top of plants, if I made the outside of the screen taller it seems it would put those buds even further away from the light. Do you have to have alot of distance between light and buds to make it effective?
Mine is/was a u-shape screen. I lowered it because my plants weren't filling it like I intended, but next run it will be back up. For me, it makes a 3x8 cab (24sq ft) actually have a screen area of about 32 sq ft. An extra 8 sq ft is a pretty big difference when harvest time comes. Also, with a wide, shallow box, the lights lose a lot of efficiency towards the very ends. Raising it up and tilting the lights keeps everything an equal distance from the light. The flat area in the middle isn't getting as much direct light, but it's coming from both hoods so it's doubled up. A light meter would be great to prove this theory, but I dont have one so fuc off!! bongsmilie

Also, ideas on when I should be able to flower these? Left 4 are Strawberry cough (supposed to have pretty vigorous stretch). Middle is PK, not expecting it to fill much area. Right is Super Silver Haze, a high stretch plant (depending which pheno I have, idk yet).

Hey stealthy, see all those new growing shoots under your screen,.. all those skinny stemmed fuckers racing for the screen. If that were me, I would chop all of those. All buds above the screen! They are soo skinny they will never amount to anything more than more trimming work for fluffy buds.

This is especially the case with lower power HID and cfl bulbs. just a suggestion. All these scrog shots make me want to hang my screen up just to take some pictures but I am waiting for 3 ore 600 watt MH bulbs to arrive before I activate my second row of lights.

Looking good guys!

Serious, kudos to you sir, it looks a tiny but crowded but I think you will do just fine, as always a very clean setup. I might thin out some of the smaller branches but thats gonna be a great harvest when all is said and done.

gonna ask a silly question, but it will clear up something for me..... those little branches that gonna get trimmed can they be used as clones if the plant is still in veg state. If not is there any use for them.

That is what they are perfect for! Ideally you want to pull clones from the bottom of a plant because there are more hormones for rooting. When using scrog, lower branches aren't always the most ideal choice as some of them may be thicker and branch better than a smaller stalk from the middle of the plant thats just trying to shoot upwards.
I like to take clones right before flowering (a week or 2), at that point I know exactly what I want in the screen and what I can clip. For my current run I took clones about 3 days ago and still have another 3-4 weeks before flowering, mostly because I wanted to get my aero cloner up and working, get the kinks out of it before it becomes an immediate issue.

Wow, I get so rambly.. anyways, yes, trimmings are always a good way to take clones, most likely you will trim 10x more than you can clone so you really get to chose clones that look good and you have a selection.

As an aside, I broke the cardinal rule of cloning by the way; I have 2 VKs "brewing" at the moment, it's obvious to me which is the better pheno but I took a small clone from the shorter, slower growing VK because of one subtle difference. The "more healthy" looking VK has some red in her stalks with forest green leaves, the weaker of the 2 has very dark leaves, a little glossy and deep purple between them, I know the clone from the weaker VK will be a weaker clone, grow slower and produce less fruit but... I'm a sucker for purple. I know, worst reason to take a clipping but it happened so... theres that.

yes, you can clone those.. they look a little skinny for clones but they will still work. I am constantly trimming my plants but about a week or two before I am going to flip I stop trimming. Then 2 days before the flip I do one last big trim. All those trims go to clones. That way I have two weeks to let them root and then 6 weeks to veg them. So when everything works well, as soon as I harvest, I have another batch to go in.

I take about 40 clones.
Then I place the best 28 in net pots in a simple bubble veger.
Two weeks later I take the best 18 and but them in my DWC buckets.
After another 2 weeks or so I cull again and keep the best 12.

40>28>18> 12 of the healthiest, strongest, biggest, bad assessed plants go to flower :)
