Light leaking.

well, it will also heat up the glue on the tape, and that is probably what made it fail. did you let it cure for a few days before you turn everything back on? it lets the glue set up and get into the pores of what its atached to.
 
use plastic chains to hang your light up with. its cheap and STRONG. also much lighter than the metal chain. you can easily change the height of your lights with it too.

I know what you mean... if you seen my youtube video I only have my bulb hanging without a reflector or heat tube.. I just have it tied up in a knott lol so scared it might fall and cause a fire, ... I figured if the tent is surrounded with mylar the light will easily be reflected back to the plants. I feel that the reflector and heat tube steals alot of the blue spectrum.. but shit man I can be wrong am still new lol.. but i did do some homework before I jumping into growing.
 
well, the thing is your right but your also wrong. mylar does reflect it, but light diminishes greatly over distances. 50 % of you light is going upwards to the top of the tent. so to get to the plants, it has to travel all the way to the top of you tent, then all the way back down to the plants. a reflector makes the 50% of light, that you are wasting, go directly to you plants. yes you lose some UVB through the tube and some light, you are losing A LOT more light without the reflector.
 
crap now am confused... the guys at the hydro store told me " if you have the heat undercontrol, don;t get the reflector or heattube it will just steal the blue spectrum" Now am thinking, maybe I can make my own reflector. If I would go to the home depot what type of sheet metal would I need to buy? am thinking setup the sheet metal right above my plant inside the grow tent.. and just pull up everytime they grow? you know what I mean? like make it smaller inside the tent... because either way if I buy a normal size reflector light will still bounce off the sides.
 
but the way reflectors are designed, is to direct the light downward. if you are making a reflector, get very shiny sheet metal and then polish it. then make a parabolic reflector out of it. buying one, would be better, and since you do have a bare bulb in there, you dont need an aircooled. this is the one i have right now, but im expanding my garden soon, soo will be upgrading.

who am i kidding I cant make a reflector on my own lol... but yeah.. the maxwing reflector looks good.. ... would it cover 5 feet?l lowered to 10 plants at 16 inches? am concern am gonna spent some $$ and it wont be able to cover the grow tent and plants as like the bulb w/out the relfector. like i said am still new and learning lol..
 
depends on the light you have. if you have a 1000 watter then yes. anything less no. its not the reflector, usually, that determines coverage area, its the wattage of light. there are some reflectors that will help give you more coverage area, but its also a matter, of distance versus wattage. light diminishes of distance, and the more light you have, the more coverage area.
 
oh ya this is gonna be for the clones am gonna cut from the puprle kush mom.. so this is going to be a bigger tent appro 5 by 6 feet covering 10 clones in 2 gallon pots and maybe 4 o5 veggie plants too. so am kinda skeptical on the 600 watt with reflector bulb at 16 inches downwards.. i might have to get 2# 250 watt mh bulbs with the reflectors so it can cover the 15 plants.

I see then am gonna have to split up the lights.. I dont want to use up more electricity (very expensive) so I might have to break the light usage into 2 parts.. 2# 250 Metal halides for vegging., and keep the 600 HPS & 4 by 5 grow tent for flowering.
 
I have a 600 watt MH running now.. but I have another grow tent on the side that am planning to put clones in. So what am saying is, I was planning on using the reflector and just buying a 600 watt MH for vegging the clones.. but like u said it can pnly cover a certain distance so ill just not buy the 600 and go with 2# 250 mh's with reflectors. that way it can cover the 15 plants in the new grow tent. I know am sorry.. i must of confused you.
 
haha its ok. ya 250's will cover the vegging plants. but actually the one 600 will cover you veggers, and you could get 2 400's for your flowering tent. that would give you a 3.5x6-7 lighted area. and the MH will make em really frosty in flowering. much more UVB, which causes trich production
