Depends on how much your personal use is. If you smoke like one bowl a month, you'll probably harvest enough to keep ya goin' for 6 months with that light setup. If you're gonna spend time growing your own weed, spend it wisely. Get more lights, preferably a HID.

i just go to an electric supply place and pay with cash. a 400 watt hps bulb will run you a steep 25 bucks. don't know bout the ballast.

How big is your cabinet and what is it made of? Generally there is no better option than the $20 hps and it can be used just fine in a 1x1x3 foot cabinet. The ballast can be remote wired or you can stick the light in a hole in the box with the ballast hanging outside like one guy here was talking about the other day.

200w cfl's = more heat the one 150w hps bulb alone if the ballast is outside the grow box.

thanks very much mate. thats saved me a bob or 2. got another silly question for you. im going to get some pc fans and make my own carbon filter. once i get the fans how do i power them? is there some sort of transformer for them so i can plug em into the wall?

You know how some of your electronic devices have a big block that plugs into the wall? That's what you need, one that is the right voltage like 7 to 12 volts dc and check the amps listed on the fans to see that is has enough. Some of those fans pull .5 amps so it depends on the fan. A 12v fan run at 7 to 9 volts runs quieter if stealth is in your plan.
