Lighting required for 2x2m Growtent

Hi. I currently own a 2m x 2m x 2m high grow tent and only using 2x 400 watt HPS lights with 7 plants. I am wanting to upgrade to a more effective light source either 2x 600 watt HPS lights or maybe even 1x 1000watt HPS... I don't want to be paying a fortune for power (obviously) but compromising is definitely the key here, so if more power x better light = bigger yield then its worth it for me. What would you recommend for lighting out of HPS 600 & 1000, and how many would i require for a tent this size to achieve max yield? (ps. I only use HPS, not considering at any other type of lighting) I am looking at doing 8 or so plants in some fairly large pots, possibly a small sea of green... Cheers :dunce:

well 2 x 400 is fine... :) Im using 2mx2mx2m also with 1x400w and 1x600w. But im using 24 plants with 6.5L pots ;)
 
Yeah from experience 2 x 400watt'rs just isnt enough... Im sure the 2x 600's or 1 x 1000 would smoke the 400's and help me achieve a larger yield...

What kind of ventilation you have?
400's if fine as long as you know what to do with them. You can put out 600g easy witht those 2 x 400w :)
 
I have an extract fan and an intake fan pumping fresh air in. I keep the temp approx 24-29 deg c and an average humidity. Often put a cup of water in there too to make it more humid. I just found that the light wasn't getting to the bottom of the plants, only the top buds were thickening up. I thought by pumping more light into them the plants wouldn't be so empty around the mid to bottom...
 
Go the 2 X 600W.. You'll get more light coverage and more even distribution.
I run a 1000W, n honestly iv considered swapping out to 2 X 600's.
 
Cheers xxninjaxx. Thats exactly what I thought too. Another question for ya, when growing from seeds, just when the plants ready to flower wold you recommend cutting the top (the main bud) in order to keep the plant short and help the other buds grow thick like cobs???
 
To be honest man, if ur working in confined spaces, try tying ur plants over, that the best ticket. (Even if u top the plant, the other nodes will still stretch n u cud outgrow ur area).. I will get a pic up for you of a small grow of my mates where i have been teaching him to tie over, n il show you the potential of it, and how beneficial it can be. His plant does not exceed half a foot out the pot, and will yield 1/2lb or so.
But im busy all weekend, so b patient, il do my best to get it up 4u.

Hey, if you have that good setup go for 2 x 600w indeed! buy one of those automated humidity steamers... or what ever.. and do more plants like 9 plants 3 x 3 lines.. :) or 12 plants.. Cut off the lower branches that more nutes goes to main stem and top. and trim some fan leaves if light is not getting in lower buds. And if its rady to harvest vut off main stem and tops for curing and let lower buds for 1 more week and you get nice results :)

If you look at my last picture you can see that one side is 600w and other side is 400w

Ninja, just checked them out. You've got buds all over those cobs!! Do you pinch and then bend the branches and then tie them down?? Whats the best process to get my babies to look like yours... and how early do ya start bending??
 
Nope no pinching, just good ole fashion tying. Haha, its funny my mate was going to kill this plant as he said it looked 'Ratty & Male' So i took it :) No he is spewing.. lol.

I got it at about 3 weeks of age and started tying it down straight away. I cut out a few of the weaker looking branches throughout Veg and also topped it once it had reached the side of the pot..
 
lol I bet he was. I'll definitely be doing that on my next grow. Im harvesting in 3 days :D cant wait! and cant wait to start another success. Wher bouts you at, OZ?? Im in NZ.
