The choice of your light does not correspond to you, it corresponds to the temperature where you want to place your crop.

If it's a cold place, HPS DEFINITELY.
If instead you grow in a hot place LED.
this right here, the heat you have to add in a cold space would cancel out any savings from using led, not to mention the learning curve when switching to led can be a real curve ball leaving you completely stumped, LOTS OF CALMAG, if your space is under 80 degrees with led your plants will give you a lot of trouble

One of the better spectrums I speak of, is the Mammoth Emerald Green/Mint White LED. 2537umol-880w.

Its got a 4800k-5000k rating. 2537umol-2.95 Efficiency. 3456 Diodes.

And still.

The Hortilux Blue goes from 280nm-2000nm+. I myself also add in 2 Solacure UVA/B Flower Power bulbs, in each 4 x 4 area, and 1000w HID., or equivalent. Those are most powerful from 280nm-300nm. But the UVA, is the same as the sun. In uvb, they are 4+ times more powerful which allows to run less lights, and less time for them to be under the UVA/B.

I've just started using it in a dimlux fixture alongside another with the new dxo bulbs.
Does it stack up against the hortilux blue

Looks like the Kelvin rating is 4200k. Same as some CMH. 3100k-4200k.

Hortilux Blue has a Kelvin rating of 5500k, so they are vastly different, but, the halide you show, may still be a good bulb, but it doesnt have the same spectrum, as the Hortilux Blue.
New MSS bulb coming out, has a K rating of 6000k. Sun is 5800k

I've been looking at the MMS bulbs but don't think they'll work on the dimlux ballasts. The 600w ballast i have at the moment I'm using the dxo 400v bulb, the ballast says 240v on it, have you any idea if it will run the MMS

The 6K map is nice looking, not a lot of power in the reds though, which is the cause for the low lm output of mh bulbs in this color rating..
To me personally the 4200K is hard to beat overall if your growing for head stash only.

Also the 2K hps are very hard to beat as they show very similar results and not so far behind the higher kelvin ratings, I've grown for over 20 years and the day I'll take a 100k lm bulb over a 165k lm bulb has not yet come haha ;)
Total output and each wave strength of that output is all that matters as long as your somewhat in the par range.

I've grown with HIDs since 1996. Last year I switched to HLG Scorpion Diablo X for my main flower light. It works every bit as good as my HIDs and once I got my environment dialed for LED it's better. Moving from HID took some adjustment so possibly there are other issues with you having not experienced well flowered LED buds. Genetics are controlling, growth facility comes next etc.... So could be many reasons beyond the light unless all variables were controlled down to that. But anecdotally I'm LOVING my LEDS and have now swapped out everything to LED (HLG LEDs to be exact).
 
I'd select Sun if I could, but for indoor I'd say led, the diode light is more energy-preserving, not making too much temperature. I actually just use a grow purple light stuff I bought for rather not a huge price and it kinda works

Honestly, the healthiest growth and happiest looking plants I’ve ever had indoors were under Hortilux Blue 1000W. They didn’t have as much output as HPS, but the plants always responded better to the Blue spectrum. It just would have needed to have like 25-30% more output and would have been the go-to light source at the time.
The power consumption though… :shock:
The new MMS Halide, is 20% more powerful, that the Hortilux Blue.

Hi, for years I have used MH for veg and HPS for flower, now I have done a couple of runs with 630W LEDs, I have had two advantages: greater production and better climate control. Compact and hard flowers, abundant resin but the quality of the high is inferior, still very light herb compared to HIDs, just my opinion. I'm changing the set up of the room again to go back to HID, I would like to try flowering with MMS MH bulbs (in Europe at the moment only 600W are available), having never used MH in flowering I have to expect a notable drop in weight or in any case it will be similar to an HPS? It's probably a newbie question but it's been almost twenty years since the way I was taught MH for veg, HPS for flower

Im sure there will be a slight decrease in production. Also from what Ive read, from some. Halide, will bring out more/different expressions vs LED, because of the wider spectrum.
And while Im far from any kind of expert, from what I can see, spectrum wise, no LED is even close to having as broad of a spectrum, and also the UVB/A bands. The LED Infrared/UVA/B, are very very narrow band, vs the spectrum of the HID. 280nm-2000nm+
From published spectrum graphs, the Hortilux Blue, MMS, and most any Halide, has a good deal of power in both the Infra-red, and UVA/B. Especially IR. These bulbs go all the way up to 2000+nm. And down to 280nm, for UVB, and everything else above that. Though to be honest, I dont think they are as efficient as a dedicated UVA/B bulb, like a Solacure Flower Power bulb. But, they for sure do emit some a good deal. It takes a very special type of glass, to Efficiently Emit a 280nm spectrum, and not get absorbed.. And the glass, is expensive. UVA/B, does not like to be reflected, and any UVA/B that goes towards a reflector, will be absorbed, and not reflected. The Solacure bulb, has some kind of special phosphorus coating, Inside the bulb, is used for reflection, vs using any type of standard Fluroescent type fixture/reflector. Solacure is also T12, and has a HUGE bulb, for a Fluro, but will fit most any standard fluro fixture. It can also run from 25w-100w. We run ours at 40w-45w. On 15 minutes, off 45. 2 for each 4 x 4 area, and 1000w HID, and about 24 inches. Sometimes a good bit closer, but also reduce the watts of the Solacure bulbs to 32w. Be it Hortilux 1000w HPS, 1150w DE Gavita, or Hortilux Blue. But with the DE, we run at 45w, and 36in-40in from canopy, and 30 minutes on, 30 minutes off.. DE HPS Gavita 1150w, have huge Infrared. And will fry plants, if any closer than 36in.

Personally, I like LED better. HPS seems more likely to burn plant based on grows I was around when younger. The light is less forgiving based on your skill, if that makes sense.

I use Spider farmer for flower and a viparspectra for veg. VS is on the cheap side, but it works fine if youre doing 1-2 plants at a time. I have 3 under my SF light and could do more.

Mh in flowering, does it change much compared to HPS? In your opinion, is it worth flowering with MH or is a blue-enriched HPS a better compromise?

You will get higher quality smoke under MH, no matter 4K or 6K
Total light output is 1/3 less than HPS
So just make sure you put it in a smaller space as it makes less light and also less spread, and your good.
