Super Plant Tonic - is not really a fertilizer. It's true it has NPK in it, but it's primary purpose is to innoculate your plants roots with mychorizzal fungi. Plus it has vitamins, micro & macro nutrients (trace minerals - often neglected in other fertilizers).
.
If you are having your plants die at the one month mark. It sounds like you are either using terrible soil, overwatering or overfertilizing. Common mistakes with first time growers. If using tap water, always put some in a container & let it sit for 48 hours - so the chlorine will evaporate from it.
.
To rule out soil issues, try this - get a bag of Jiffy Seed Starting Mix - it's a soilless mix. Start your seeds in Jiffy Peat Pellets (cheap $ 2), give them only plain water (no fertilizer), once they have two sets of leaves, transplant them into pots containing only the Jiffy Seed Starting Mix (cheap $ 4 a bag).
.
Get some Peter's 20-20-20 NPK Fertilizer (it's cheap $ 4). Mix it up a gallon of it 1/4 strength - so you have a 5-5-5 NPK. If your pot is one gallon size, feed each plant only one quart. If it's a two gallon pot, feed each plant only two quarts.
.
Wait, do nothing for one week. Then water, using only plain water. Same guidelines one gallon pot - one quart.. etc.
.
Next feeding, increase the fertilizer mix to 10-10-10, as before - mix up one gallon. Feed using the same guidelines.
.
Wait, do nothing for another week. Then water using only plain water.
Same guidelines.
.
Next feeding, drop the dose back down to 5-5-5. Followed the next week by plain water.
.
Then get back with me.
.
By using the soilless mix (the medium is not adding anything) - plus soilless mixes retain water & nutes well. By using the peat pots to start the seeds, you give them a nice starting environment - that is hard to overwater. By using the Peter's Fertilizer, your not spending much, the stuff works great & contains some micro & macro nutes.
.
Follow these simple guildlines & you will not be out much money, results will be decent - provided you are not growing them in some stuffy unventilated closet or super hot outbuilding.
.
Remember the basics : Light, water, simple nutes, air circulation to provide CO2 & prevent heat buildup & decent soil or soilless mix. Mary is a weed, in nature she does just fine on her own. You don't have to spend big bucks on Part A, Part B, Part C High Dollar Fertilizers. Just stick to the basics until you get the hang of it.
.
Some Super Plant Tonic would help, but I'd not spend the money until, I had some plants with at least three sets of leaves.
.
Hope this helps...

Shit! Ok, I've gotta mark for myself, I am replying/subscribing after having read the first.... FOUR pages. You convinced me, Ohsogre. I got some SPT. I also had this poor kid stuff a 20qt bag of castings in one of my bike's bags, while I balanced a box of Dr. Earth Organic 5 t,v&h fert. (5-7-3), says it's a compost starter (though now I need help getting it turnes).. gosh, and it has PRO-BIOTICTM beneficial soil microbes, plus ecto & endo micorrhizae. I think I misunderstood what those do, but that's fine, I don't misunderstand that what they do is good. Wow, they list the species AND count. But it's dim in here and my reading glasses are in the bedroom.. remind me for tomorrow. Good stuff.

littlebat's a little hippy mama. cool.. 8)

Seamaiden... I am so glad to hear your jumping on the Organic Growing Train. Plants grown in real living mixes - do better, taste better & are better. As far as friendly fungi's go (ecto & endo) - one taps into the root, the other only lives on it's surface - both feed the roots, protect them from bad micro-beaties and strengthen the plant overall. Mychorizzal Fungi - Rock !!! Plus, I am sure you will love the SPT.

I got two bottles (by accident). So when I finally got up just a little while ago (woke up with a mother headache) I emailed them and asked them to make the two orders one because Craig from Little Rock SWEARS by this stuff. ;)

I'll get to see how well it works and compare it to the Dr. Earth (which appears to be made locally in a place called Winters (it's in the 707 area code, so that's pretty close by). Stuff comes with an expiration date. How many fertilizers come with a freakin' expiration date, huh? :D

I'm looking forward to getting my Gardener & Bloome organic potting soil today, so I can begin my transplanting tomorrow, too. This stuff is so rich it can be used as an amendment. I am totally diggin' that!

And hey, my husband and I have a very young friend, a girl we call our 'stepdaughter' (I'm her "second mom") who moved to Cherokee Village recently. Quite a change from Lake Tahoe, but she seems to be doing well.

Hey.. I go canoeing on the Spring River at Hardy, right next to Cherokee Village. That is a beautiful place. It's a pretty good drive, about 3 hours from us. So, we don't get up there as often as I would like. My wife & I have discussed moving up near Hardy, when all of our birds have left the nest.
.
I was telling my wife, I bet that was some show, Seamaiden peddling down the road - with a truck load of Organic amendments on her bicycle. LOL...
.
Well, Yes I do swear by the SPT. Once you use it, your hooked. It makes growing a breeze. Your plants take up water & nutes so much easier. Their vigor & overall growth is just better. Just please go easy on the nutes... First time I used it, I fed a little to heavy. Since then, I only feed every two weeks (with just plain water in between).
.
Well, I had better jump off here. My eyelids are slamming shut...so, I guess it's time to call it a night.

My bottles came in YESTERDAY, from freakin' Arkansas, they made it in two days. If you knew the troubles we have with our local USPS, man... anyway, I got a little extra something (a small bag of guano 9-3-2) since I know their friend in Little Rock. 8) Color me STOKED.

It's made for soil really, but lot's of guys are using it in hydro set ups. It has sediments (worm castings) in the bottom of the bottle. If you pour it through a coffee filter - it would be just fine. It's not thick or gel like.
