Well as stated, Im lookin to get a new computer in the next upcoming weeks and I was just curious as to what everybody thinks of my current choice. It's a ASUS Essentio CM5675-07. My price range is $500 - $650 dollars. So if you know of anything thats comparable or better than this current system for the same price range, please let me know! Anyways now on to the specs...

It's got an Intel i5(650) processor, 8GB ram, 1TB harddrive(only 7200rpm) 300watt powersupply, and just a cheapo built-in Intel Graphics card that has an HDMI port so it atleast plays 1080p which is nice for onboard.

When i get this i plan on atleast upgrading the 300watt power supply to a 450watter so i can accomodate for a new graphics card. Any reccomendations on that also?

Im going to be doing lots of photo and video uploading/editing/watching and some light gaming so i need it too be decent.

unless you can build a computer your self or have someone

Actually I've been building computers pretty much my whole life. My dad and his best friend owned a computer building/fixing business my whole childhood so i've been around it quite a bit. The problem I have with building one myself from scratch is that im impaitent and don't want to have to buy everything myself from different websites and wait for the different shipping times and what not. Paitence isnt one of my stong suits. =P since this is the case i figured atleast i could get a good base system and be able to use it immediately and just build it up a bit after and be good too go.

Oh and I said in the first post, The computers main use is gonna be for my photography/video editing and some web/graphics design. Also assuming i upgrade the graphics card ill be doing some light gaming, nothing too serious.

haha nice. Well with the way computers are and how fast they go out of date i figured i might as well get something on the higher end of things so i dont have to spend $650 on a computer again in a few years. Right now im on a toshiba Satelite laptop with 2gb ram, 250gb harddrive, and a Intel celeron processor. -_-

Basically if i try to do anything with high definintion(over 720p) or gaming on this laptop it slows down and lags out hardcore.

Yeah the main reason of the thread really is too see if anybody else knows of any good graphics cards or just some better computers that might be around the same cost that i might have not seen. Ive really only been browsing newegg and tigerdirect as there the only computer sites i know of.

What kind of resolution are you running? I'm running two monitors off of one card. 1900x1200 and 1440x900. The 8800 gts 512mb runs both monitors... they have like cards with 2gb 5th generation video ram these days for $200. Insane!

I'd just get something with like a gb of video ram, that should handle pretty much any page file.. unless your trying to run multiple monitors on high quality supreme commander or some shit then you might need 4gb  but pretty much a gb will handle anything. shit.. 512mb is doing me JUST fine and I do all the picture/photoshop/video game stuff

IMO the heart of a computer is the motherboard. If you get a shitty motherboard now it might not be easy to upgrade it later.

Oh and remember, you get what you pay for.

uhmmm motherboards have to be compatable with the tech you put on it.. like the socket type of the proccessor and the type of PCI it uses

So If you get a board with a newish intel socket, and pci-e x16, and SATA your pretty much guaranteed to have a decent mobo

basically you cant use a shit mobo with GOOD cards and processors

Im on the Itouch at the moment so i cant check and i cant think of it off the top of my head, but im going to be using a 22" monitor(vga or dvi) and a 32" monitor(HDMI) together. All the cards i've been lookin at were in the 512mb-1gb range, leaning more towards the 1gb. They will both definintly be running on the highest quality most, if not all the time.

And yeah i just glanced at those $200 video gards with like 2gb and i could believe it =P. Im guessing the only reason people are gonna need that is for when 3D gaming/video starts to hit the computer market big time.

This is where I go for all my computing needs.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=31

Check out the barebones kits in the link. They generally come with everything you need to build a PC yourself.

Great place for a one stop shop. If I order something it's usually on my doorstep the next day but that all depends how close you are to one of there distribution centers.

Good luck.
Ahh very cool i actually never checked out the barebones, i never saw it on the list lol. Thanks!

And damn thats fast as shit! I hope mines that fast. I live in st.pete FL and i think they have a distribution place in tampa actually! Thats like a 30 minute drive haha.

Im checkin out the barebone kits and i found a couple ok ones.

Hows this MSI barebones kit:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7151073&CatId=333

Compared to

the previous ASUS i posted:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883220055

The MSI is only $499 compared to the $579 that the ASUS cost. But the thing is im going to have to get a videocard and buy 4 more gigs of ram for the MSI, so it might cost a bit more in the end. Heres a quick breakdown incase you cant click the link

ASUS:
Intel Core i5-650 3.2GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM
1TB Harddrive(7200 rpm)
300watt Powersupply
Onboard full HD graphics
Windows 7
Price:$579

MSI:
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz Quad-Core Unlocked
4GB DDR3 RAM
1TB Harddrive LP(5900rpm)
550Watt Powersupply
No graphics card
No O/S
Price: $499

Honestly i guess im gonna have to upgrade either no matter which one I get. The power supply and video card on the ASUS or the RAM, Harddrive(maybe), and Videocard for the MSI. Gahhhh I honestly dont know what too do. I dont have the kind of cash to drop on nice things often so i dont wanna make a shitty choice haha.
