Looking for advice on best QB setup for 5x5

Hey guys, I'm new here but have been growing for a few years and I think it's time to upgrade from the chinese blurple panels that I've been using (x2 Meizhi "1200w" 1k actual between both). They're served me pretty well, I've been able to pull up to .9g per watt from them, but it's time to see what all this QB hype is about.

I have a 5x5x8 GGT and each run consists of 4-6 fairly large autos in 5g equiv air pots. I'll likely be sticking to 6 after upgrading to QBs, but it can get a bit packed especially when they bush out from the LST.

I'm not particularly handy, and in the spirit of keeping things simple, I'd rather not go the DIY route. I'm looking to hit 35w/sq. ft. (or 875w) on a budget of around $1000-1500 (I know it could be done a lot cheaper if I DIY). The main thing that I'm concerned about is the spread. Seems like there aren't any prebuilt configurations that would be optimal.

I was initially thinking about grabbing x2 HLG 600H Kits (just under $1400) and running them at 450-500w ea., but I think having the light split between 2 panels/8boards is going to give me a pretty bad spread and issues with hotspots.

If I'm going the HLG route, I'm assuming that running 3 of these 320w panels (dimmed down to 300w ea) would be my best bet for a 5x5. I'd basically be paying the same for less light, but will be more efficient for my purpose I think. These panels are each running x3 QB 288 boards.

x 3 HLG 320w using x3 QB-288 ($1431 with dimmer knobs)

That would be 1 panel @ 300w per 2 plants, 7" spacing between each panel and walls at each side, with 12.5" of dead space in the front/back.

There's also these 320w panels that are the same size, but they run x2 QB-324 boards. Having the light spread across fewer diodes is less efficient, but I would save just over $300

My gut is telling me to go with the 320w panels that run QB-288s if I'm not going to DIY, it's more expensive but will give a better spread and allow me to run them a bit closer. I'd just like to get some opinions before taking the plunge. Thanks in advance xD

Ya, you're going to need to either build a frame that extends a bit out in design from a 4X4.
Your beat bet would be to get some 4' or 2' strips and rub them in lines on a frame.
You'd have 6-7" on each side and have a really nice blanket of light.

Considering my two QB 288 kits (570) watts kill it in a 4x4, any of the options you mentioned will be great. It's all up to you man.

Have you considered Rapid LED? Use coupon code dude for a discount of 10% off their website... Chilled Logic 5'x5' kit + a dope frame (substrate) comes out to $1,117. It uses 9 of the GrowMau5 V2 pucks that have the 660 nm deep reds.

That Rapid LED fixture looks like it could be perfect and would save me around $300. I'm just concerned that the assembly might be a bit more involved than I'd like. The QB kits are easy enough to wire up and get going, but this thing looks like it could be a bit of a project, hmmm...

T slot frame is about as easy as it gets my dude. You'll have no problem.

I was actually talking about wiring the lights, but it's basically the same as other QB kits the instructions just threw me off a bit. I think the HLG boards are slightly more efficient and I'm wondering if they might be better for full cycle cause 3000k all around. Hard decision cause I've heard a lot of good things about HLG and don't see too many reviews for these pucks.

Get 1/3 of the boards in 4000K if you do that then. Put those on a separate driver you can space out between every 2 3000ks. Use that for the veg time, then use them and the remaining 2/3 of 3000K for flower. That's a solid plan. 3500K is good too, but veg is so much better under 4000K ime.

Like if you go the 3 fixtures of 3x 288 's, 9 boards total, just have one be 3500/4000K to hang in the center and use just it's 320 for veg.

I mean, you COULD put one 4000K in the middle on every fixture. You'd be able to spread them out then.

In what ways? im not challenging your opinion, just want to learn. Im currently vegging under 3k.

All of the lighting options you mentioned would be great. I think you should also consider the ChilLed logic 5x5 kit from rapid. I know you said you didn’t want diy, but it’s easy and rapid will be there to answer questions.

I was considering it, but it looks like each puck has 140 diodes, QB288's have more than double that so much better spread. Also not sure if chilled uses top bin diodes like HLG does, seems like the HLG are a bit more efficient based on the reviews I've seen.

Think I'm going to go with x3 QB288 panels from HLG @3000k unless I can find a better option in the next week or two.

Yeah man. It's also just as easy to setup as a Quantum Board. It's all push wire stuff just like QB's... no soldering. You just need a screwdriver.

If you can get 288's I would suggest getting them. I know they're like $25-35 compared to pucks at $50.
