i got a bender and wirth sample, they look workable, i personaly dont use reflectors, but i just dont know if i can sell enough CXM27 to take the plunge, as a lot of people would poo-poo any holder that has no provision for reflectors

time to get a 3D printer and get creative i guess ;)
3D printers seem very fun
I dont use optics either because they absorb some photons, bu there are some situations where they might be needed like where theres an open space and walls arent practical or possible.
For me just place cobs closer to canopy.

Finally solidifying my build

1x HLG-320H-54B
6x CXM22 3500k 80 CRI (Is this the right CRI to get?)
6x 120mm Pin Fin
6x Ideal Holders
Left out the miscellaneous stuff, TIM, wiring, etc

Now just questions about the driver

Do I just buy a 3 prong plug to wire into the driver, to plug in the wall?
I'm reading this is a 54V Driver, the COBs are rated for 51V I believe. This won't be an issue right?
I would be wiring in series?

40W/sqft, should be MUCH better than my Mars II 300 I used for my last grow. That was about 20W/sqft, the light was just terrible. The COBs are just much more efficient per watt, and I have double the wattage and coverage.

There are lots of positive testimonials about the 90cri also, less lm/W on paper, but plants see par not lumen. The 80CRI is the variety I got for what thats worth lol.
Yes 3 prong so that you are grounded, and some are grounding frame of fixture also.
Cobs take the Voltage they need no more so no worries about the difference.
This type driver is wired in parallel.
The 48B wont be high enough voltage and it will go to dimmed output or turn off with over voltage.
Definitely gonna KILL your Mars dude!

Hey guys seeing as how the other thread was locked ... Can anyone help?

I am looking to put together a build for a 3.3'x3.3' tent. this is going to be 3500k for veg/flower and in the future i want to build a flowering-only setup.

But for now, I'm looking for the latest and greatest COBs. I'm a big newb so any guidance at all on what would work well for my space in terms of specific COBs and actual configuration is helpful.

hey guys im still trying to decide what to get. so many chips to choose from. i hope someone can help me pick parts suited for my space. :)

Best bang for the buck or ultimate setup?
There are some new CXM cobs not really tested yet, and the CLU058s are great for the efficiency in the higher power requirements

I want a kickass badass setup that doesn't necessarily sacrifice efficiency needlessly. But my space is small, so I am optimistic that may be doable within fairly reasonable budgets?

I would go 16 cxm22s or 8-9 CLU058-1825s in that space and with a 600watt or 2 320 watt drivers probably

What are the pros or cons? Is the 16 better coverage? Could DIYing 16 cobs difficult for a newbie like me? More room for error? I've never worked with electricity before so I won't lie, I'm a little nervous, but still excited to get started.

If you use the holders no need to solder so that makes it easier, and the wago connections for all he other wires.
Plenty of help here and other threads if you need it.
More cobs better coverage and lower drive current so more efficient and reliable.

What supplier do you recommend? I know about cobkits are there any others?

I have 2 hlg 320 48a which will drive 5 cxm 22 each and i have 1 hlg 600 48a to drive 6 on each strand these type of 48 drivers will run them nicely. ill be using multimeter to adj myself to the cxm-22. should i set it at 51v i was thinking like 51.5v?20161231_224824[204].jpg

I would just turn the drivers V all the way up. I dont believe you will gain more current with the Voltage attenuated.
Maybe @CobKits will have an answer. I havent used 48A drivers personally.
I have used 24A drivers on some different lights that are rated 24V and run the driver wide open, and just dim the current as needed

They are working very well so far. It's been 20 years since I did this so I really don't have any sort of fair comparison, but I will say that I am experiencing extremely vigorous growth.
Plants seem to really love cobs.
I dont think they care what brand as long as they have a solid spectrum.
All the major brands are on target with color at this point it seems.

Hi i am thinking of buying 4 x cxm22 engines from cobkits. I have a hlg185-1400b, will this run 4 at 56w each?
It saves me buying another driver when i have one lol

cheers

I think I'm going to dive right in and do the full-on 16 22s.

Can you recommend a specific driver for this? And is there a benefit to splitting up the lights between two drivers or putting them all on one?

1.4A*50V=70W so somewhere around there it probably isnt exactly 50v

hlg185h-c1400b can output 1.4A at up to 143V (constant current region is 71V to 143V) - so at most you could run 2x cxm22 (50V each) in series on this driver.

If you are doing a 3x3 space i would do 12 like me for a 4x4 on either 2 hlg-320-48a or driven a little lower on a hlg-600-48a--6 cxm22 on each 320 or 5-6 on each output on the 600. Your plant will be very happy with 12 especialy if you narrow the beam down with some reflectors :) maybe some angela if you have it in the tent leave em bare will be fine. Even at 12 id suggest running co2 to take up all that light you will be giving them.

This is 8 cxb3590 in a 4x4 area. Selling these to a friend
