Make Your Own Grow TRAY For CHEAP!!!!

Okay here we go i've been thinking about doing this for a while and after seeing mold on my top shelf i decided to do it.

Its really very simple

1. Cut plywood to desired shape

2. Screw sides on

3. Fiber glass it!!!


I put a drain with 1" pvc pice sitting flush with the bottom of the tray and fiber-glassed it in. And it workin like a charm.

Hope i gave you guys some good ideas.

Any questions just ask

Total cost was the price of the wood and 15 bucks for the resin.

does it actually work well, like no drips or leaks?
And are concerned about mold starting in the wood?

I think that's what the fiberglass bondo is for not to bad of an idea actually

yea no leaks whatsoever works great and as for mold, as long as you have complete coverage of fiberglass you will not have mold...


heres a little hint dont add too much of the hardener cause it will set up FAST

Good idea, pics could have been better though, it's kinda hard to see the whole setup and finished product. =)

That's a damn good idea too! How do you do the drain areas though? Like tighten a bulkhead down on top of a hole in the sheet or something?

i use a round vineyl piece to reinforce the drain area, that is i make a hole in the nylon and in the piece of vineyl, i screw the drain over a double layer

As promised I would +repped you after I tested it. Here is my review. The stuff works great. however, I don't think it's the best solution for the price. Also note corey used the short hair strand and I used the longer hair version of it. I found this stuff to be really messy and vvery difficult to trowel to a thinner coarse. If anyone else tries this stick to the short hair version. It took the whole gallon can to do one tub at 16x30x14. I'm going to do a test on redgard rubber membrane. I'll report back on that. I found another guy on here that did his using blue max. He had great results and it looks nice too. Although that stuff is so expensive to get. But I think it would be a better and cheaper option than the bondo route depending on the ammount of trays and tubs you need to make.
