Matching Drivers and COBs

Ive tried running my 1825s both with hlg185-48A (maxing voltage and current, 1 driver per cob) and using hlg240c2100 (dimmer lead open and 2 cobs in series) and they gave a very similar amount of light even though the first setup was about 400 watts and the 2nd was 250w. Hlg240 is the way to go on this one IMO

I did and I love this setup.

Took a day to get heat back down.

I suggest using caution when pushing about 100 watts per cob I start making a lot of heat.

Was up to 87 overnight.

Just so new readers are aware they do make heat.

thats cause hlg185-48a with a single 1825 tops out around 2400 mA due to its 53.5V voltage limit. hlg240h-c2100b tops out around 2100-2300 mA with the dimmer leads open, so as you mention, they should be really similar

that same hlg185-48a can run both cobs at 2100+ and when operated like that is pretty darn close to a 240h-c because the 240h-c generally doesnt use all the voltage available unless you get lucky

they kind of already are. you can get the same performance out of cobs that cost 1/2-2/3 as much as that. same setup but there are a lot more options on the market since growmau5 made his most excellent video series back then
What COB's would you recommend? I also am looking to cut down the build cost, however I would like to have the same performance.
Thanks in advance :)

best match i have for the cxbs are the 1818s ($23.40 after RIU discount), which are available in many colors, and the luminus cxm22 ($17.10 after RIU discount), but only in 3000k 80cri (which i recommend and why i picked it when i had to choose from one color to order). luminus not up on site yet (this weekend for sure)

Someone finally gonna sell Luminus..nice!
Are the cxm 27 any good?
Im only coming up with 131 lm/w with CXM-27-35-80-36-AA00-F2-3

cxm27 tested great but its a goofy size with few holder options. bender and wirth is all there is.

might be my go-to if it wasnt such an oddball size. the cxm22 is great drop in to the citi line i carry

cxm32 is identical dimension to clu058 as well

Do you carry the cxm32, or will you?

I looked at the Citizen 1818's on your site and noticed they run most efficiently between 90-150w, however the heat sinks you have only allow for a Max of 75w per sink passively. another thing I also noticed was the citizen holders can only handle a Max of 250v which would be 5 cobs max, am i reading that correctly? what other passive options are there to run these?
Thanks

90-150w is more of a best-bang-for-your-buck sweet spot. The lower the watt the higher the efficiency all the way down.

the new Luminus is best bang 4 buck ,beats the 1818's hands down both in less sink needs, less holders ,less cobs at a lower $$ price for same size cob as well iirc
