Minimum DWC Res Temps?

Hi mate, nice cab, very neat and well built, I like a grower that pays attention to detail :) . So it seems the key to your issues was air temps and insulation.
I saw you had a lot of problems at the start, glad you got them sorted.

Have you ever read any of "lucas's" threads?

Its a very long thread, but if you manage to get through it, it might make your or any grow a hell of a lot simpler, things like H202 is not a fix for any problems and no need to use it ever if your water temps + pump powerful enough (H2O2 only adds a quick/temporary source of O2 to the water) and simplifying nutrient usage (that was Lucas main focus - simplifying). That thread was a god-send for me, it gives you info on all the little things too. Its a good read.

Thanks for the info on the insulation and air temp stuff, I have a gas heater for the air temps and a fan controller on the way, so i should be fine. As soon as I get the controller I can test the whole thing out.
Man I had a lot of issues going on between the grow, personal and professional and volunteer activities. I was a mess and it showed in my grow through August when I went off line for a bit and came back fresh. As you can see I've been doing a lot of thinking and dealing with this so check out what I've got planned because it may be relevant for you.

Also as an FYI. One of the reasons trying to use the air pump to regulate air temp doesn't work so well is that the air pump uses the incoming air to pass over and cool the electric motor before running it to the head end.

I'm not sure Newegg ships to your country or not. But this fan occasionally goes on special for $9.99 with free shipping. I use this fan to run my cool tubes and they pull some serious air at 133 CFM. Scythe by far makes the best PC 12v fans out there. I've seen 85cfm 4" fans for $110 at the hydro store and even though they may have a bit more static pressure, this puppy will move good air in a small space, especially a cool tube. There's a recent picture showing my Panda Film screen bulging inward because of the pull of two 100CFM versions of this fan. I've turned a couple of people on this site towards these fans and I should have bought stock in the company. ;)

I run the fans off of an old 200w PC 12volt power supply. You can also run these fans off of any small 12v power supplies such as the kind you charge your phone with. Just cut off the DC plug (the one that goes to the device) and then connect the two wires to the fan and plug it in and if it runs backwards then turn it off and reverse the wires. You can find these surplus in any number of places and may even find them for free if you are a scrounger. Try and get power supplies that best match the spec of the fan since that information is on both the fan and the power supply.

to be honest i personally wouldnt touch a pc fan for my grow, im using an 8" ruck exhaust and 6" ruck intake :) If i was building a very small grow id use them, but I think anything over the size of say a DR60 tent and id be looking at powerful fans. You can run the bigger fans at lower speed and they can cope with quite high temps at full speed :)

Where is the post with what youve got planned?I didnt see it. Il be honest i didnt read your whole thread, just the first 20pages and the last 5, too much personal info in it to be honest, no offence intended, just not my cup of tea :) Appriciate the help ;)

Haha "drama" :) Ah drama just makes life interesting. I'll have a look at the post when I get a chance.

Well I managed to get the res temps up to about 65F, the 2x600w hps's added some heat and I got a fan controller to turn down the exhaust. The air pump is running very hot though for some reason :(

65* is where my water is too and life is good for me so you should be good!

An air pump uses the air it's pumping in to cool the pump motor. Check any air filters in the pump for dirt or debris that would be reducing air flow into the pump itself. This may improve the amount of air your pump is producing as well!

its a brand new pump, only been used about 4-5days so far, but I'll see if it has any filters etc.

Try this. Get a medium size cardboard box say 2 cu ft and place it over the pump. After an hour or two, take a temp reading of the air in the box vs. the ambient room temp. Then call up their customer service and see if difference is reasonable or not. They should have an idea of how many BTU the pump motor gives off.

Just a thought.

Yeh i have it in a wooden box at the moment that has a hole cut for the intake, i might try it out of the box and see what difference that makes.
