Ok so I am relatively new here and this is my 3rd year growing and this year is kicking my butt. Anyways, I have 4 clones that need transplanting asap, my soil that I spent $30 I mixed up and left in a large Tupperware with the lid on. I came 4 days later to use the soil and there was half a gallon of water under the lid and MOLD in the soil EVERYWHERE.
What do I do now is the soil completely throw away now? I have no more money to mix another batch like that the only other thing is convert to hydro but I have no Nutes or air pump for that. KInda screwed any suggestions?

BLAZE IT UP

Don't keep your unused soil in an air-tight container. There's micro organisms living in there, and by sealing it off you've created an anaerobic environment wherein aerobic organisms will die off. In short, let it breathe bro.

Depending on how long it's been sealed, you may have killed off most of the helpful bacteria in there, making it not good for planting anymore.

I've had the white/gray mold on top of my soil before during a grow, and I've read that the mold itself is mostly harmless and to just scrape away the top layer and throw out. However it indicates overwatering, so if you get it during a grow you need to adjust your watering schedule to let the soil dry out in between waterings.

When you buy a bag of soil it is usually sealed though. It must be the organic dry fertilizer I mixed in with it. I'm going to do what you say let it dry then take the top inch of and ditch it. Good idea thanks!

The pics are from a bag of Fox Farms Ocean Forest. I mixed the ocean forest 50/50 with happy frog and a little dolomite lime for my current grow. Next time I plan to add in additional blood and bone meals, ground oyster shells, and more perlite to the mix. Or maybe I'll give hydro another shot, idk.
Anyway dude, I'd poke some holes in the lid of that Tupperware container if you're gonna continue to store soil in there.

Cheers and happy growing!

So I put my soil outside and it baked in the sun. You could see the mold turned crispy kinda. I took my hand and removed any infected soil, then washed my hands. Should be good now. I think its safe to proceed thank you.

Smoke it up

Its like a dark grayish color ....im scared to use the soil and kill my clones
dmp out your soil onto a tarp until it dries, mixing it daily, cover your mouth when doing so, the mold is bad to inhale.
Soil always needs to be aerated to age properly, if you wanted accelerate that process, and help combat the anaerobic stuff ya got, you could brew a AACT and use that too.

I got rid of the mold should be good now. Got the soil outside baking in the sun. This particular mix I made is custom. I made up my own mix. I used Natures Choice water retention soil. Its mostly sphagnum peat moss. I added a bag of perlite and a bag of Kellogg organic dry fertilizer. The bag this soil came in had no visible aeriation holes. It never occurred to me it would develop mold in just 4 days with the lid on. Never even crossed my mind.

don't beat yourself up over it man, just remember for pretty much anything oriented to cannabis growing, anaerobic is bad.

So like if the mold forms under a no oxygen environment then that means that there is beneficial bacteria in the soil then right?
