Mom ticketed for 2 year old urinating in public.

My problem is she says it was a potty training accident. It wasn't though, she told him to find a grassy area and he found a street pole instead. Both of which are going to be public places. Part of potty training is learning to hold it, even when it is uncomfortable.

umm.. He's two years old... holding it isn't an option at that age. Hell, it's not even a concept at that age. When they gotta go, they gotta go.

I can't speak of my urination habits when I was two because I can't remember, nor can I know that of my friends' or families' habits. But I can say that no one I know who has a child in potty training has let their child believe that if they have to go it's ok to drop your drawers and take a piss wherever they see fit. Also, isn't that the point of potty training? To not just pee the second you feel a tickle in your stomach, but to wait until you're in a restroom?

My problem is also with the mom condoning it. I don't expect her to scold and punish him for eternity, but she shouldn't be instilling in him that it's ok for him to pee wherever he wants to until he decides he's old enough to understand how to hold his bladder.

It is indecent, age regardless, but he is a small child. She could have led him to a bush or even an alley or run into a McDonald's or something rather than a pole in the middle of the street..

Wait- she told him to go find somewhere to pee? As in, 'off you go, find somewhere to piss'?!

I think that's the problem here. Poor kid.

She took a chance, got caught, was ticketed $50. Imo that's fair, but I'd still be pissed off about it. cn

Children don't come with a set schedule. You can't predict how they deal with potty training. Some take longer than others. The fact that she said it was a potty training accident tells me the child is still learning the ropes. Growing up with and helping raise numerous nieces and nephews I have seen all types of potty training situations and quite a few ended up with kid doing his business in the great outdoors. Shit happens. Literally. We don't know the background of the situation. He could have had a busy bladder that day and she was out of changes and one store had already turned them away. Sometimes letting them void their bladder on the ground is the only option. It's a better option that walking around with a child soaked in urine.

Ok I am a parent and I potty trained the older child. One thing I learned is that pull ups are a friend. With any child that is in training and cant wait for the potty pull ups were made for them. As a parent when my child was training I never left home without a sippy cup a change of cloths and a DIAPER bag. It seems like the mother is trying to get the kid to quit diapers cold turkey. I do not agree with that approach. She kinda asked for trouble leaving home with no backup plan. I do not agree with the ticket at all. That is bull. Ps. Fu*k the police.

I agree that pull-ups are wonderful. I also agree that the kid had to go. But I also agree with the ticket ... it is public urination after all, once the mother said what she did.
Imo the newsworthiness of the story surprises me; something of a tempest in a peepot. So she got a rather mild $50.- ticket. big woop. it's unlikely to be a common occurrence. Jmo. cn

What a world we are living in today. When i was a kid, I pissed on trees, poles, off of bridges, over cliffs, the outside of a porta-potty, or pretty much wherever i wanted as long as people weren't looking. Hell, i still do. The point is to make sure people aren't looking.

I have no problem with people going to the bathroom in the "great outdoors" as long as the outdoors isn't a street corner. The background of the situation was that they ate at a Johny Rockets, they went to a clothing store, the kid had to go, the clerks at the store wouldn't let him use the rr, and she told him to find a grassy spot to go outside like some dog. If she had used any discretion, like finding an area behind the store or somewhere else other that plain view right on a light post there is a chance no one would have even noticed. But if your kid runs up to a light post in broad day light and urinates on public property you should expect whatever penalty you receive.

I agree with her getting ticketed, especially only $50. She is full of herself to try and fight it.

She was heading back to the restaurant and the toddler (yes he's still a toddler) wasn't going to make it. Sounds to me like she did the best she could under the circumstances. I take away points for her not anticipating this and having a back-up. She has two older children. Like I said, we don't know the circumstances. Maybe she did plan ahead but the child exceeded his bladder capacity for the day. Who knows. I think it's ridiculous to give her a ticket for this but that's my humble opinion.

It wasn't the kid who was ticketed. The way I see it, the mother was cited for "failure to plan ahead", regardless the charges of record. cn

Maybe by underlining that peeing in public is bad ... but that's a pure guess on my part.

I also want to repeat the small size of this story, and my surprise that it was elevated to the status of news. There are much more reportable things in this country imo, but this one didn't run afoul of the interests-that-be ... cn
