Erm good point. But mother nature is stronger than anything, and i dont think many countries could have handled it any better.
Our FEMA director at the time's only qualification as far as management goes...was he ran horse shows. We screwed the pooch with Katrina, we could do a thousand times better if we put effort into it.

about 1,800 people died, and over 180 billion dollars in damage they were also well notified this shit was gunna happen ,

The hurricane surge protection failures in New Orleans are considered the worst civil engineering disaster in U.S. history[SUP][5][/SUP] and prompted a lawsuit against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the designers and builders of the levee system as mandated by the Flood Control Act of 1965. Responsibility for the failures and flooding was laid squarely on the Army Corps in January 2008 by Judge Stanwood Duval, U.S. District Court,[SUP][6][/SUP] but the federal agency could not be held financially liable due to sovereign immunity in the Flood Control Act of 1928

We knew it was coming, we knew it was big, we knew it was gonna be bad. Our Government likes to sit on it's thumbs a lot, if you didn't notice. But now, find us a country with oil and we'll have thousands of troops there in a matter of days.

lets not blame all the brilliant people that come up with ideas like building major cities at sea level.

Try below sea level..with an inadequate levy system.
at, below, same thing at times it would appear. even with adequate levies it's a silly idea to build a major city at or below sea level as we will see in the future.
