Back in April 2009 I purchased some Dutch Passion Taiga Feminized seeds and put some down... all five seeds came up strong.
April was coolish and summer didn't really come about till June.
I'm growing these in a greenhouse outdoors.

Really bummed to find one of the feminized seeds (see pics) turned out to be a male.

I guess the lesson learnt is you can't always trust what's written on the can...

Dude, that sucks. But on the positive, you still have 4 more girls, right? But I know what you mean...spent like 12 bucks a bean to find out one went awry. Oh well...better hope he didnt pollenate. Put up some of the girls pics! I'm waiting for seeds in the mail as we speak for 10 fem Blue Himalaya Auto from Ministry of Cannabis and 5 fem Little Angle from Dope Seeds.
Besides the male occurance, how's the grow been so far? What are you using, and when in April did they sprout?

You're absolutely right about the male, just one of those things I guess... I'll put it down to a tough up-bringing
sadly 3 others died and I've 1 left... praying it stays female...
I've 4 Mandela Speed Queen plants on the go and they're doing fine...
Will post pics when I can...

Good luck with your other grow (ref your other thread here) and here's hoping no males get any funny ideas.

From a good friend of mine

Folks will disagree with me, but I don't feel there is anything stable at all with FEM seeds.

At best, you get a breeder that knows what he/she is doing. By that, I mean you have a breeder who has a special female that has been watched and studied for a long time to know that it is stable. By stable, I mean it doesn't have a tendency to produce male flowers under environmental stresses. This forced female (by using colchicine) will produce "XX" and "XY" pollen resulting in progeny that are "XXX" and "XXY". This is the most ideal, and honestly, both are hermi. This is fine though if all you care about is that generation. In other words if you are just going to grow these seeds out, harvest, and then not try to clone or continue the line then you are fine. To me, this is the only real functional application of feminized seeds. For the most part, you will have a 99% female crop with maybe a few hidden nanners on some of those "XXY" females.

At worst, you get a breeder that just wants to make money. They find a dank cut but don't check to see if it is stable before applying the cholcicine. Or, or, or, they look for a fairly dank female that puts out a male nanner or two in flower anyway (without cholcicine). Either way, you are going to get nutty pollen that could be "XX", "XY", "XXY", "XYY". When I hear horror stories about folks having big time hermi problems with fem seeds, it tells me a lot about the breeder they got them from. These seeds are highly unstable and are a waste of the grower's time.

If you plan on cloning and keeping a female alive, then don't waste your time on fem seeds unless you just absolutely have to have a certain female. I'll never waste my time with fem seeds. I would rather spend my time selecting from males and females and finding that one super female to keep. Of course, my setup is condusive to that. As I said, some folks need feminized seeds based on how their grow is set up. So if you can only grow from seed and you can't keep clones, then "Stable" or rather "Reliable" feminized seeds may be an option. Personally I would rather buy double the regular seeds and just cut out the males. This is typically cheaper as feminized seeds are usually more than double the price of regular seeds.

And please, for the love of the plant, if you are planning to breed, DO NOT used a feminized female. Remember, your most ideal case is that she is "XXX". Still a hermi, and the progeny from her crossed with a stable male will be "XXX" and "XXY". HERMI HERMI HERMI. Hermaphrodites are one step closer to our favorite plant turning to hemp. A self pollinating sea of low THC, low yielding plants.

So basically, what they are saying is that all 'fem' seeds are truly hermi. You'll have to keep a close eye on them...I predict they'll start kicking out nanners a few weeks before they're done. If you don't want seed weed you may need to be out there picking them off every day for a couple weeks.

Blimey, I find myself well informed! thanks for the insight.
Goes to show that mother nature still has a part to play...
When the day comes when the sun stops shining, growing pot will be a completely different process...
And rather than typing into this machine, it'll just be reading my thoughts....

I bought feminized god bud seeds from bc bud depot and out of 5 seeds, I only got one female. That's some bullshit, not even a hermie, a strait up male. Don't waste ur time with feminized bullshit

3 grows all feminized seeds=All females for me.Usally the growers fault.

Tell me what I did wrong, I've been growing for almost ten years now, had good previous expeirence before with fem seeds, have made my own and they worked 100%. This time I bought these seeds in order to get a new strain and I grew them side by side with fem master kush x skunk a buddy made with 100% sucess. All were sprouted in peat pellets under fluroesent 100watts, put in light warrior at 1 week, put under 400 watt metal halide, feed kelp extract, transplanted to 8 inch square containers @ 3 weeks filled with light warrior/oceanforest 50 50, feed with high P bat guano and flipped to 12/12 @ 5 weeks, plants were almost 2 feet tall, one was almost 3 feet tall, very busy and thick stems,, about 5 days into flower 4 developed male pollen sacks on all budding sights. No femlae pistels in sight. The whole time my grow tent was about 80 degrees day, 70 degrees night, I ran co2 @ about 875 parts per million. Never had power outage, and never had a hot spike past 85 degrees. All master kush x skunk was female. Tell me what I did wrong to get males from "feminized seed"

So I take it the more stress the more of a chance it will be male or herm
this is so true!!! I had an experience from a breeder one time. i ordered 10 femies and only 3 made it to female stage. I contacted the breeder and they gave me 7 more femies of my choice, and low and behold they turned out female, so what I'm saying is if you have problems with several that did not turn female, try contacting the breeder with your complaint. they don't want a bad reputation.

you're talking about indoor growing?

Well...that's why a lot of experienced growers say to NOt waste money on "feminised" seeds. One out of five is likely to be male...which is pretty much true across the board with regular seeds. One out of five will be male. So....why waste the bucks?
Cool temps the first four weeks, proper pH and distilled water produce more females than males from any regular seeds.
I read that back when I first decided to grow and it seems to be true. I grew 11 plants my first grow and two were male. Second grow is nine and two were males. Close enough!

You gotta figure...Nature WANTS to ptoduce lots of plants, whatever the species. One male can burst his pollen sacs and fertilize five, six, ten females, easy. Each fertilized female will produce a gazillion seeds...which in turn will produce one male out of five...to spew pollen over another 5-10 females, forever and ever, amen.
