My first grow, 400 watt scrog, white russian and blue cheese.

More than likely algae. Just give the trays a rinse every so often. Shouldn't harm the plant as long as the roots aren't bathing in it. I'd clean them everytime u notice slimy growth.

I would do that but with my plants in the crates like that it will be impossible to get the drip pans out, oh well though all it is really touching is the bottom of the air pot planters the soil is suspended a good inch or 2 above the slimy water.

So I've been watching DrGribble's grow here in the grow journal section and i must say his plants are making me want to go hydro for this next grow, i am planning on remodeling my grow room after this harvest and i think it would be a good time to implement hydro into my set up, so i started out thinking that what i wanted to do was a hempy bucket system watered on a timer like his but i don't like the idea of the drain pans over flowing, i have very little space in my grow room and if that happened cleaning it up would be a bitch. So i started thinking about a recirculating hempy system I've always wanted to grow dwc but in my situation with such little space i think maintenance would be a bitch and i would have to build a system from the ground up to suite my needs which pretty much leads back to the same problem of water flooding my grow room, i don't know how much i trust my self to build a system that will be water tight and remain water tight. I really like the idea of a recirculating hempy system all though its pretty much the exact same as a recirculating dwc system. I don't know what I'm going to do I've been googling and youtubing for research and the more i read and the more i watch the more i don't know what to do. I might just go with straight no frills hempy buckets for this first time around and get to work on a recirculating system for my 3rd grow i suppose if i have enough time to work on it i might be able to be confident that i wont have any leaks, in the mean time does anyone have any good links with info on recirculating hempy systems?

So now i am thinking about going rdwc, i am trying to simplify it though, it seems most people have a return line coming off of each bucket and then going into 1 return line then back to the reservoir, they also have 1 feeder line splitting off into multiple to feed each bucket, to simplify, cut cost, and save space i am considering a system like the one shown in the diagram below, there are a lot less connections to worry about leaking a lot less parts to buy and the plumbing would be a lot less complicated.

Let me know what you guys think, the only obvious flaws i can see is that if a water line got cloged i could end up with a flood and if the water levels got to low the pump may run dry and the water could stop circulating.

Hmm fuck sigh i just realized that because of the way i have the water lines set up that i would not be able to use the pump from the reservoir to drain the system when its time to change the water.

What about this one?

Sigh i don't even know if this is a good idea, i don't have an RO machine and this would cost me a fuck ton in water it would also probably look pretty weird in the small town i live in, it seems to me that i am at a stand still with the active hydro thing... I like the idea of a recirculating hempy system there are many advantages to it like the fact that it wouldn't require any where near as much water, its more less automated, it also would not require near the amount of parts to build or the complication of a DWC system, i would love to use the recirculating hempy bucket system but i don't believe its possible since i do not have the ability to position a reservoir on a lower level than my buckets.

Its funny the other night when i started researching the hempy system i had forgotten how simple it was, its some pretty easy shit, get a bucket, drill a hole in said bucket, put perlite in the bucket, plant plants, water and done, i have been racking my brain trying to figure out a solution to the drainage issue which is the main reason i was considering an active hydro system that and because I'm lazy and would like something more less automated.
My drainage issue is that i can not empty my drain pans because the screen and the planters are holding them in place, but i guess fuck it i will buy a shop vac its a lot cheaper and a lot less complicated lol.

Have you thought about replicating Flowa's? His is super simple to build/maintain, and his results speak for themselves. You don't use as much water as you think, you just replenish/flush the reservoir every few days. Or if you want a lot of great success has been had in air-pots and coco. Lots of fun ways out there to grow, just have to find the right way for your taste and circumstance.

I would like to replicate flowa's but the problem is i believe i would have to have the reservoir significantly lower than the buckets other wise the water from the reservoir would level out in the bucket and flood the root system of the plants.

The growth of my White Russian is fucking beautiful the bud sites are so tight and resinous just touching the shit leaves a sticky ass resin all over my finger tips, the blue cheese is starting to catch up but doesn't look any where near as bud packed as my White Russian looks like it will be, the blue cheese has a lot more stretching between its nodes than the White Russian does, both plants seem to be doing well but I'm noticing some of the younger fan leaves yellowing, is it normal for the leaves to be yellowing at 30 days of flowering?

Its been a while since i last updated so i figured i would put some pics up this is day 33 of flowering, the White Russian seems to be putting on weight like a body builder, however the Blue Cheeses growth seems to be runt like at best...

Here are some pics of the White Russian,

The pictures were taken at 33 days into flowering, and yeah they are looking pretty good i am very pleased lol, thanks for the rep man.

So i just got done doing some work in my room, i was picking off dead and dying leaves from the canopy for about 15 minutes mid way threw i started feeling really funny like i was really high, and i haven't smoked all day but my hands were covered in resin, i am pretty sure i got a bit high off of the resin being on my skin but i am not positive, i was just wondering if any one else has gotten high from having resin on there skin after working with their plants?

So the other day i cut off some under growth from my White Russian to improve air flow and quick dried it for 2 days by setting it on top of my air cooled hood, i am assuming that what i cut off was mainly what would be referred to as pop corn buds, i was pretty surprised that after 2 days on top of the air cooled hood the buds seemed more less dry and it wasn't to harsh at all, the potency wasn't that great but it was interesting it was a very clear heady high, cool thing though was that i was smoking the first few hits of my own home grown weed while i was watching a streaming broadcast telling me that weed was officially legal in 2 states in the usa.

Okay so I'm at about 6 weeks flowering and i believe I've run into a problem, looking back at pictures it seems to me like the problem has been progressing for a while but i hadn't really noticed it, i haven't had as much time as i would like to spend with my plants as of late. If you look at the top 2 pictures of both of the plants you can see the bright yellow spot in the middle, well that's not just from the HPS's foot print the leaves in that area are yellowing severely, around the edges out side of the hps's foot print the plants seem to be growing fine but inside the foot print the leaves have purple stems they are yellowing very badly on both plants and the blue cheese's leaves are curling upwards. What do you guys think is going on here, its a 400 watt hps in an air cooled hood and its probably setting at 1 foot away.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Here are some pictures of both of them,

I have also noticed that the plants do not seem to be growing that much vertically, when i first flipped the switch to 12/12 the plants stretched quite a bit for a few weeks, i kept tucking them under until they slowed down, but since the initial stretching ended it seems like they are barley growing upward at all.

2 weeks

They only really stretch for the first few weeks, after that it has slow growth but mostly just bud development and elongation. As to the yellowish area. I'd say the plants aren't getting enough water or they are not getting enough Cal/Mag. In weeks 5-7 of an 8/9 weeker they need lots of cal/mag as that is when they are packing on the weight/girth/mass. Also another thought is the buds that are directly under the light may mature a lil faster if they are getting everything they need. Progressively as they get closer to maturity, they start to drop massive amounts of leaves. Just natural transition to ripe/fall. One last thought, what are your temps directly under your hood? Looks very nice man. They should really start to fatten up now. Peace!!
