sure but, i definitely mean square pots btw, you buy plastic pots once and use them for years. in the long run imo it makes economical sense and they provide other benefits over fabric pots.
i agree 100% the way the plas changing im going to be buying the sqaures regardless, looks like the bags will just go in the closet of wasted stuff i repurpose 5 years later lol.
it was solely price point at that point tho. was going as super budgetr as i could for begining then improve as i went, had planned on by 3rd cycle ideally using better pots. now it seems im going to try to build an ebb and flow table. and use 6 in square pots filled with hydroton clay pellets. basically copying @Thundercat grow style. trying to trade for lumber to build the tables now.
even before the idea swap i wanted to eventually be running all nice square pots fitting nicely together. but the pricing to start was scary for me.

i’m sure you will not regret a dime you spend on building the best setup you can when you see the results.

getting really close to harvest on the 3 remaining bluu waffle clones. once they are harvested we are taking down the tent and building a small flood table. am trying to figure ot the cheapest way i can do this as ya boy is hella broke. im looking for either a few pallets, or even a twin bed frame. think it woulld make an appropriate sized table for me to start with. also need to aquire some hydroton.

got back from doctors today, turns out the pain in my back and leg is from a ruptured disc fml. going to have surgery and gotta teach my wife how to take care of the ladies, got a lot planned. trays are HELLA expensive, so im going to have to start a few clones in soil untill i get the funds to buy a FD table. im looking for alternatives that are cheaper and will work so ANY suggestions would be appreciated and considered. i hate to keep hassling @Thundercat for advice lol. hes just got so much to offer.
momma plant ios getting ready for clones to come off, the slurrican has such a nice structure370636127_335325832427549_546356523708936670_n.jpg368792241_676024344509440_2320913046925120707_n.jpg371491130_904777534639184_2853469743684839967_n.jpg370316958_1066367354521113_6906135216796262677_n.jpg looking alittle faded, think shes ready for low dose meals.

the second and third of the 3 strains I'm running are in reveg atm,368565465_247946841599879_6334614511749427790_n.jpg370238054_1007920313759719_5578255118809136717_n.jpg370327204_1338517210118594_6106625121372216315_n.jpg396622167_6909550169125290_8572144999384672962_n.jpg371517392_990207805394084_2952241953709804_n.jpg370115303_655766396696751_8693909511991568944_n.jpg got this from a friend in Iran, this was about a year ago, and then the stuff popped off over there while I'm growing her, she's nice. mid flower I decided to keep her around. nice single cola structure looks like she will produce a lot of nice colas in the sog style.371523390_1357029451854830_6202015637598471349_n.jpg395135731_350565050681205_1995472504231288495_n.jpg367370616_329064296479419_899242711506970276_n.jpg she liked the same strength nutes as the bluu waffle which will be the 3rd strain and will be another reveg

then the 3rd strain which will be another reveg, is Bluu Waffle from ghost genetics She is still actually in flower right now so she will be the last cycle.386453835_1477940432994869_8103785491995311012_n.jpg370233500_1006750140602814_7437095772513348092_n.jpgthis branch broke off so i cut her to check the trichromes, and hung her to dry.
sorry for the HID lightin in the pics here, they all have branches that are tied to the net to support them and i cant pull them out for clearer pics. 368355707_167365326456149_1563543974246911712_n.jpg396561532_1593078921222942_7686116756179351951_n.jpg371487294_841872237424552_6636444230590652231_n.jpg371526895_1658799831196126_8094634714216810845_n.jpg they all 3 are clones, momma got choppeddown over some space issues at the time. shes throwing nice fat colas on all the branches, making me think if i run her sog style and dedicatre all her energy to just the 1 cola it will be wow.

so ive scavenged a table that will hold the ungotten tray ( looking at bus tubs from resturant style but is so small id need to really cut my intended plant count. 371487173_896000232260720_5261274914478669059_n.jpg i have a lot of 4 inch square pots, but i think they are 2 small for finishing up a 12 week flower cycle..370137261_1504021717025288_5769144963288781368_n.jpg see the difference in them? im afraid the plants will as well.
ordering a 25l bag of hydroton and the fittings from amazon, there arent any gardening stores of our nature in these parts, so amazon is my best choice. also ordering
  • Dimensions: 1/2 in. inner diameter (ID) x 20 ft. length
  • Flexible vinyl tubing
71dULnGQhzL._AC_SX466_.jpg im hoping the cheapo will work untill i am able to harvest and resupply with better gear, but we are broke lol

The bus tub idea might work if they are deep enough, they are usually tough plastic that shouldn't break. They aren't very big, but if you started with that and worked your way up once you got some harvests and the hang of the flood and drain thing it could work.

Just a thought, but a plastic kiddie pool might be a viable option. Obviously, they are a big weird shape, but might work.

Another thought was, https://www.lowes.com/pd/Project-Source-15-Gallon-PS-Commander-Storage-Tote/5013943289?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-dcr-_-ggl-_-LIA_DCR_232_Home-Organization-_-5013943289-_-local-_-0-_-0&gclid=Cj0KCQjwtJKqBhCaARIsAN_yS_mnrM5bno8TmFt4Ugz4tiTlzkEWr5-I_22HX7xK6KQLZmh2CRj7OkMaAqrwEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Its big enough you can run 15-18 plants in it, and those totes are usually pretty tough for a couple years. Its a little taller then needed, but that is better than too shallow. You could even get another larger tote as the reservoir and put it directly underneath as the "table" too. Just an idea on keeping it all budget-friendly.

hey hey been a few, the slurricane had a little issue with the soil she went into, working that out, and shes bouncing back.
got most of the supplies for my first ebb and flow table!!!
370336176_6687475331372350_8553270719285240934_n.jpg The 40-gallon rez tote is a little larger than the table i have available. so this is how it is so far but hopefully that changes before next week. inside the rez is 1 pump to pump the feed and i also have another pump in it that just keeps things circulating.
the table is currently sitting on 2-liter bottle racks. they are just stable same-sized lifters that happened to lift it enough for my purposes. this way i can keep a large enough rez that temps and ph stay a little more stable for me. The problem is when in full swing ill need 3 of these rezevoirs lol, good times. I'll figure this out before then tho.
370142532_291132840560505_516147639512400550_n.jpg got one of the cement mixing tubs from tsc, still need to borrow a bit from a bro to drill the fittings into the tub, i got some 1/2gal square pots im able to snugly fit 14 370246145_3254226724721647_7119671573102245618_n.jpg with the fittings in the center. do i need to space them out a little more? and run
370101338_24091868053792402_5871734217860474409_n.jpg the E&F fittings
371910781_372806855174799_6344165753813445105_n.jpg as im typing i realize im missing a different size hose, i need 1/2 inch as well as 3/4 inch..... oof

im waiting on Amazon to deliver the Hydroton, and taking clones tonight.
going to also lay out a ghetto par map, just to get a better idea of how high to hang my lights.
will be using the apogee par meter i got, ( gotta rewatch some videos on how to do that )
387471031_357378036969805_5649918889982062690_n.jpg i use this for checking my feed its kinda old i need a calibration solution most likely but it works well enough

Looks like you will be off to a good start!

FYI you won’t need the second pump to circulate. The waterfall effect when your tray drains back into the tub airates the water just fine. The second pump would also raise your res temps unnecessarily.

got my Hydroton yesterday, i "washed" it off, i just ran hella clean water through it until it came out clean. do i need to do more? ima read more ..
have a few leaks but im getting silicone today to seal it up no worries.386856151_381031991026564_8087152259039745156_n.jpg it just slow drips a few spots where the bottom of the mixing tub isn't flush. sealing it up. i didn't think to order a drain line, so for now i just cut another hole in the rez lid and have a length of attached to it just going down below the lid, it works till i eventually get a hose. im lazy tho and this works so it may be a while lol.
had to cut a few slots out of the table to let the lines run through.
403406194_721417243376430_4488985385933945191_n.jpg with the middle slot left empty for the F/D fittings to fill it. i have the drain set to overflow at just above the middle of the pots. it takes 1 min for the tray to flood to the point of overflow.
but it takes around 5 for it to drain. my pump is a little op for this, im worried about the force of the feed knocking the fitting off and just having a geyser in the room/ also when it comes on it SPLASHES like a mofo. so until i replace the pump im going to just leave a small plate over the empty slot 371282800_336587742396012_5208536683714952456_n.jpgand ill just set a small weight on it to make sure if the fitting does pop off i dont have the geyser. sorry this whole paragraph is useless now... but ive already typed it. i had it empty until i decided on the plate while typing so its helpful lol.

i ran a few test fills to get timings down and such. letting it dry fully so i can apply the silicone.
momma slurricane got a little hungry and ignored for a week, have been suffering from my own inaction for a bit but i have her on the way back.
i want her to get a few more days of happy life before i start cloning to help the clones start of stronger. as of this point (377321329_884243736234663_5479357820578239352_n.jpg) that's the only thing holding things up.
i do still have a few things to figure out on feeding the clones once they go into their hydro homes. But 99% of the fear that comes from doing something new

Looking good, man. All I ever did to wash the hydroton is rinse it with water till it was mostly clean.

You don't need to worry about a drain hose if it's just draining straight into the reservoir, I've never used one. That is what allows the waterfall to aerate the water.

I used a pretty small pump I got at lowes or homedepot. It was made for Koi ponds and outdoor yard ponds. My timer only had 15 minute intervals so it ran for 15 minutes, it only took about 5 minutes to fill the tray and it just ran back into the res. Then it took another 5-10 to fully drain after the pump shut off.

I remember reading those back when the pictures were there. Inspired my first semi serious shot at growing too
