N.C Outdoor Grow 2011

Well, i planned on moving about 6 beauties outdoors this year but, not in the same place. 1 here 1 there kind of thing! just keep a mother at home, small enough to chop and toss..

Im gonna go out today and take that fence down

im still going to do lst on them , but i also might incorporate some super cropping methods also

I checked out your micro grow scrog/lst, I figured I would put up some pictures of what I got going for the moment,

THis is pictures of what I have added: The speaker cabs need to be painted inside with flat white! And the dresser has all the electrical in the upper right hand side along with the 4"intake fan connected to the 4"duct so I can place it where ever I want.

On the left side I have just installed the 4" inline fan with a activated carbon filter attached, but its raising the temps to about 90+ so I don't know how long I'm gonna keep that with the filter on it?

If you guy's have any idea's for lowering temps, I'm all ears.. plus that last picture is the very last NL's I grew in the same box - aka (Top69 form advanced seeds)

First i love the dresser ,

from what i can see it looks like you only have a fan just circulating the hot air in their , also no exhaust

you need exhaust and also your exhaust needs to put out more air then what then whats going in

but it looks like you have no air going in , your just blowing hot air around

you need to take in fresh air , and exhaust it out , and your temps will go down

if im seeing wrong im sorry my man

maybe this can give you a general idea


COMPARISON OF CABINET DESIGNS

1. Simple Cab - one chamber, no scrubbers or restrictions to airflow.



CFM = 3.16*Watts/deltaT
where deltaT = 10 *F

Intake Area = 2 x Exhaust Area
Fans - Axial/Computer Fans due to minimal pressure loss

Example: A 400 W HPS in a 3 x 3 x 4 cabinet needs 126 CFM of cooling for a 10*F temp rise above room temperature.
The 36 cuft cabinet is ventilated at over 3 ACpM.

Pro:
Easy to build
Fans - axial

Con:
plants stink up the place
plants are stressed by too much airflow where 5 Minutes between Air Changes is all that is needed.

2. Simple Cab with Scrubber



CFM = 3.16*(Total Watts)/deltaT
where deltaT = 10 *F

Intake Area = 2 x Exhaust Area
Fans - Blower or Inline for high pressure drop across scrubber

Example: A 400 W HPS in a 3 x 3 x 4 cabinet needs 126 CFM of cooling for a 10*F temp rise above room temperature.
The 36 cuft cabinet is ventilated at over 3 ACpM. The hard part is to match an oversized fan/scrubber combination to get the right airflow.

Pros:
single fan design less equipment to purchase

Cons:
Fan operates at 50% or less airflow due to large pressure drop across scrubber
High SP requires a Centrifugal Blower, won't work with Axial fans
Fan/Filter Curves are needed to determine working airflow
Scrubber is many times larger than Ventilation specs to get light cooling airflow
many restrictions in multi chamber designs require special attention to intakes and intrachamber airflow
high airflow for to cool lights creates stress on plants
high airflow through scrubber reduces effectiveness
Centrifugal Blower and Inline Fans are very noisy 60-70 db

Scrubbers are more efficient if the air is being pulled through the carbon, versus, pushed through. This is why you see the carbon scrubber inside the grow room, versus being up in the attic, etc.

A decent squirrel cage or turbine fan will have the power to pressurize the air vs an inline duct fan that just speeds up air flow.

A cheap fan to consider are the bathroom exhaust fans from Home Depot or Lowes. I forget exactly what they cost but its $10-15 and comes with a 120v plug they will work fine.

If you are looking for more power, go to wal mart and check out the stanley/lasko blower fan. I have one that I modified, added a 6" duct connector and riveted it in place.

Naw, man I have 1 intake fan and 1 outtake fan! The intake fan is attached to a 4" duct so I can point it at the plants with fresh air.. the problem is that my inline fan is not made to pull air through carbon!

The picture of the fan on the left side is an outtake fan. And if you look closely to the tangled mess of wires in the photo you will see some duct tape and that is where the duct of the intake fan is.

Here is some better photo's of both my setups!

Ok so you got that 4" fan pulling in air , and that big fan circulating it ,

it looks to me that you have more air flowing around in their then what is going out ,

you need to exhaust more air then what you have in their my man , your temps will start to drop then

i went a head and took the fence down like i said i was going to do , ( im glad i did )

my babies are doing good so far , i do have 1 runt of the litter though lol

but she might grow up to be nastier then the others lol

the first single plant pic is the runt ,

first 3 , B.m , 2nd 3 N.l`s

they all have been topped cept for the runt , idk how im gonna train it yet ,

i might just leave her alone and just let her grow

There looking very happy and it looks less like a grow now with that fince gone. Hey you could spray paint cameo some chicken wire for when they get big just a idea i thought i would throw out.

Sorry bro, my post have been A-d-d for sure! My, intake fan has no carbon my outtake fan doesn't support filter's but has one anyway! but your right, I need to make the out air more to lessen heat! Just don't know how to do that by having a filter on there yet, because smell is a big thing in my apartments!

Your outside crop is looking mighty fine! I wish I had one looking like that right now.. lol

Nice thread bro....I'm in NC also(go Mountaineers) and looking for the best way to germinate my seeds? This will be my 1st attempt at growing and these seeds are to expensive to mess up. How do you start yours? Thanks and congrats..

i use the wet paper towel method ,

put them on a wet paper towel , seal them up in a zip lock bag and put in a dark place

has not failed for me so far ,

ya, paper towel will work..youl be good if the temps are at least 21 C....

very nice outdoor setup man, cages are tight, gotta get some of those...

cant wait till the weather in here kicks in to plant outside...

its just 2" chicken wire that i wrapped around them
