Day 72



So I woke up super early today to be able to start the process of a staggered harvest. As of right now I just chopped down 3 colas. These were the colas that were about 90% cloudy and 10% amber in regards to trichomes. I figured if I'm going to do a staggered harvest I should also try the bud at various timepoints. So my next harvest should be next week which I'm hoping is going to be 80/20 and after that I'm just going to wait for 50/50. That way I can give her three different meds in a sense and find out which she likes best.

MY FIRST TRIM!!! I was so excited and nervous, I shook the whole way through it.
It was very interesting... and SOOOO STICKY!!

Total net wet weight is somewhere around 27g (probably more like 6g dry considering the 75% loss), so I'm guessing with what I have left growing... I should hit half an ounce.


And now on to some very mild, almost childlike, porn... bud porn!! Oh ya, sidenote... I ordered Boveda packs for the curing process. The sample bud I have is actually still sitting in the jar ready to be smoked.

Day 74



The three colas have been hang drying for 2 days now I checked em by putting them in a jar with my xikar hygrometer and they were topping out at 67 on rh after 6hrs. It may raise more throughout the day, but if it does I'll just burp the jar and check em again. Want them around 65-68 so I can start the cure with the Boveda 62rh packs. If after burping the rh is still too high I'm going to let the buds dry some more in a small paper bag. I also need to do a once over on her trimming wise, I'm seeing quite a few leaves that I missed/couldn't trim when she was fat.

Weights on the colas as a whole came out to 6g total. I weighed each cola and they pretty much lost exactly 75% of their beginning weight.


Total weight dry (wet)
Main cola - 3.5g (14.26g)
Second cola - 1.6g (6.82g)
Third cola - 1.6g (6.61g)

Total - 6.7g (27.69g)

So far I have yielded 6.7g from three colas. Hopefully I can get 6 more grams in this upcoming harvest and then maybe 2-4g the last harvest. Haven't really noticed anything since I chopped the colas except that the lower bud sites are starting to swell. I'll have a pic of her next time I update, all I have pics of are the dried colas.

Day 80






Just a quick picture update of where she's sitting now.


Preharvest smoke was good, not a one hitter for sure, but it'll get you there. The smell is kind of floral/citrus and more of a body high than a head high.

1st harvest smoke was also good, same thing (not a one hitter) but I knew this growing this strain since it was just an experiment with a freebie to see if I can actually grow a plant from seed to harvest. This time around about equal body/head high, way stickier buds than the preharvest smoke and the high lasts longer (this is all with no curing like the preharvest had undergone so I'm still pretty excited). Could definitely feel a difference in the high from preharvest and harvest. Will definitely let everyone know how the smoke is after the final harvest.



Can't wait for the next harvest coming up here. I think I'm chopping all of her on day 90 because I don't think she'll be able to go any longer. New growth has slowed down a lot. Still noticing new white pistils popping out but for the most part the hairs are becoming more richer in their brown appearance; almost a reddish color. Trichomes aren't even at 80% cloudy 20% amber. They're more like 85% cloudy, 10% clear, 5% amber, but I'll take that when the time comes for the chop.

Day 86



It's done and I have 21g of Marijuana!!



86 days later I've harvested my first plant!! So... I actually killed the lights on Wednesday night giving her about 48hrs of pure darkness before harvesting her. I chopped her down (all of her) early this morning around 2am mountain and now the buds are drying. I weighed the wet bud just as I had done last time and it was telling me that I have 57.26g of wet bud as of today.


Doing simple math for just a shits and giggles estimate...



57.26 x 0.25 = 14.315
14.315 + 6.7 = 21g

So... 57.26 wet should give me about 14.3g dry. Adding the previously harvested 6.7g, that leaves me with a total of 21g dry. If this is the case I went over my expected half an ounce goal and pulled just shy an ounce of bud, which I am stoked about due to the newbie mistakes I have made during this grow.

Update!! Buds are curing and everything weighed came up to 30g!!!


I dont know what happened in terms of the mass loss being greater the first time around because i lost 75% of my wet weight first time i harvested. This time around i only lost 40% of my wet weight and the buds are definitely dry. Only thing i can think of is the difference in leaving them in darkness for 48hrs being the cause of the difference in weight loss. Hopefully someone could shed some light on this? Maybe popcorn buds in general dont lose that much weight?? I dont know, cant really wrap my head around it.

Just curious about your "second harvest", so you just cut the main colas right off the stems and then left the popcorns to swell up? I'm leaning towards a second harvest myself, especially now since your results seem to be great.

After I read Humboldt's staggered harvest I just had to try it since their results were just awesome and you're absolutely correct. First harvest I just chopped a couple of main colas (not all of them), because I still wanted the other top colas to get to that 80:20 trichome cloudy:amber ratio. So what I looked for were colas that were covering too much of the light from the lower canopy; this happened to be the main cola and 2 lower side-branched colas. Next harvest ended up being the whole plant due to heat issues, but I would've done a staggered 3 part harvest because there were some lower popcorn buds that still had a bunch of clear trichomes.

All in all the difference between the initial harvest and the latter was a week apart, no real known issues with plant health that I noticed. I mean the lower buds were stretching and developing bigger fan leaves and swelling up nicely with continued new growth. I'm definitely interested in hearing what your results are like when/if you decide to do a staggered harvest (noticed you don't have a grow thread??)

Yeah, just didn't really journal or take any pictures this grow. Anyway, I've harvested most of the tops, leaving some bottom tops and all popcorn buds. Might post a harvest/smoke report thread after everythings been jarred up!
