... Many were protesting taxes, which had they looked past right wing propaganda and lies, they would have figured out that 95% of wage earners had actually been given a tax break since the first of April. Thank you President Obama. What is disturbing is that the right wing, special interest controlled media such as the local WLOS have failed to pick up on a different “protest” of those of us who are proud and supporting members of NORML, the National Organization for the Reform Of Marijuana Laws. ...
Man I was a big NORML supporter but are they so caught up in hate party politics like this? Big turn-off. Definitely rethinking things with NORML now.

Hi guys ( and gals )

Man , I spent many summers in North Carolina as a kid.. Not very many states have such beautiful mountains/skiing AND beaches ( im talking about Hilton Head , the outer banks etc.. I hate myrtle beach, its teenager tourist garbage ,lol ) both in the same state( less than a 4 hr drive apart lol ) . Too bad the cops there are stormtroopers..

I have an Aunt and a ( 3 actually ) cousin(s) that live in NC and I called them last night when I saw this thread and asked him if they had heard about this bill and he said that it is "just bs" and will never get passed ( he's quite the optimist *sarcasm* lol ) .. His mom is a chonic pain patient and cancer survivor that has to take pain pills every day of her life.. I told her that if medical MJ gets passed in NC that she should look into getting a card to help her with her medical problems and maybe she can get off of those pain pills.. Her son has Bi Polar disease and chronic depression and i'm sure that medical MJ would help keep him "level" also .. I have alot of questions about the med MJ bill in NC that they asked me but I did not know the answers.. They dont have internet right now so they cant come to RIU.. So I was hoping you guys could answer some questions that they/I have..

1. How close or far are they to/from voting on this bill?

2. Are there any restrictions on who can get a card? I mean, can he,a convicted felon ,get a card ( dont ask lol.. ) or be a caregiver?

3. They both are on disibility and get a check every month and are on medic-ade ( I think thats right?, lol. I was stoned when I was writing this down and now I cant read my writing now lol ).. In there case, Can any of the fees be avoided in there case? Like the monthly fee or any of the others?

4. There are 2 more questions they wasnted me to ask but I cant read my own handwriting lol.. Ill give em a call tonight and see what else they wanted to know.

Thanks guys/gals

oldschool, myrtle beach is in SC...haha..Anyways they will be voting on this bill this session which will be sometime next year I think. You can read the full bill at this link.http://www.ncleg.net/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2009&BillID=h1380 It tells you who would qualify. As far as medicaid covering the bill for it.....It is too early to tell. If your cousins and aunt want to help get this passed tell them to contact their local rep. I got a BS answer back from mine but I continue to bother him about it and have others do the same so maybe it will help.

420oldschool, thanks for stopping by. It sounds as if all members of your family could benefit significantly from MMJ. Let's answer these questions one at a time...

1) How close is the bill to being voted on...unfortunately it does not appear very close. It is hard to tell what exactly the status of the bill is...I believe there were hearings a few months ago, but I don't think it was ever reviewed by the Health Committee (which according to the NC General Assembly website is the first of three committees through which it must pass). I get the impression it has stalled a bit, but that is not to say it won't or can't get back on track.

2) I don't see why convicted felons would be prohibited from obtaining a card...if it is legalized medication you can't deny it to someone because they have a criminal record...I don't know this for certain though. They would obviously need a qualifying debilitating condition--a list of which can found in the attached PDF file.

3) I'm not sure what the fees will be, but if legalized it will qualify as a prescribed medication. This website (http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/
)has some good info about states that have already passed MMJ legislature. There is detailed information about each state's policies/requirements/etc, and it is a safe bet that HB1380 will be somewhere in line with them. Also refer to the PDF...I haven't read over the bill in a while, so there may be a section in there that addresses this issue.

I hope this helped a little. Thanks for your interest/support! :leaf:

I will be there Jerry . Just woundering when we going to march
Well it appears we missed the boat on the marching by a couple months...

Looks like there were a couple marches back in May in Raleigh and Charlotte.

I don't know when the next one is planned, but I'm sure we could convince a few people at the pancake fundraiser to march with us sometime in the future...

That's a great question. I got this name Dr. Eve Elting (505) 740-4574 from this website http://www.canorml.org/prop/215physicians.html

Maybe it will help? Good luck.

I had no knowledge of these until after the fact. We all have ample time to make arrangements.....I'd invite you all to stay with me (as I live close by)....."alas"--I don't live in a mansion and well------I don't even know how many of you are sane. :bigjoint:J/K...kinda.
I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised Jerry if there is already a preeminite march "planned" by others as well. Somehow I just don't think it was a mistake that we all meet on Greensboro's most heavily traveled road. If ever someone wanted attention, Wendover Ave. is the place to get it.
I'd love if we could all gather together for this cause, simply because it represents more than just the obvious.
And I would just love to hold up a mini billboard---"To you yours...To me mine" WHILE an ABILIFY commercial is being broadcast at an incredibly high decibel.
Naturally, the more, the merrier.....but even if it were only us RIU'ers, I assure you.......we WILL be noted.
I still have intentions of creating some flyers for an "invite" to support the cause. I should probably be getting on those ASAP....time flies.
I feel confident that it will not be just a few random people willing to literally STAND UP and make their voices heard. People are just tired as hell of their tax dollars going towards arresting innocent civilians. And those people represent "the people."---NOT a literal few isolated "officials."
In short, not only could we begin this "notation" on this date, but could build up from there.
I'm game, come hell, rain or shine.....and I love sleeping in on a Saturday morning---make no mistake about that.
Babs is moved for the cause.....and just pissed enough to do something about it. :fire:Join the human race and get righteously pissed. It is your God given RIGHT.
~~~apologies for the cynicism---I'm just ready to ROLL. :weed:
Green, it sounds like you alone will be coming with about 30 or more willing to...add on a few random "here and there"---let's just do it.
I lost the phone number I had for the local DJ. I wanted to call him at home...not at the station.
I'm hoping this wouldn't be too controversial an issue for this particular radio station.....a mere mentioning of this "event" could bring some necessary attention.
