yes, that would actually be perfect.... its called a pigtail splice.
the only reason i didnt mention it before is because u said you didnt want to walk to ace in the rain ;)

I wouldn't have to walk to ace I don't believe I just wanted to make sure I could safely use the awg8 on the outlet even though its fed by 10 and the piggy back is 12

you can always use a bigger wire. its when you go to smaller sizes you start to run into problems. it'll be fine
