Hi everybody i purchased some parts for a COB setup. Im just a little confused about how to wire it up also if its the right driver to power them.
So the driver is a HLG 240h-c1750b and i have 5 Cree CBX3950 36v? do i wire in series? if i do i think its not enough V? to my understanding i could run in parallel and have enough but i was advised its unsafe. not sure if its still unsafe if i put fuses or resistors on it. i was told. by the vendor it was the right driver to power 5 of those cobs. and then i watched Growmau5 videos and now im in doubt!!! pls help a fella out :)

You can only run 4 cxb3590's on the 240-1750. They also need to be tan in series on that Constant Current driver. The blue and white wire is for a potentiometer and resistor you'd solder on yourself that allows you to dim to 5-10%.

so i need resistor on the pot? or either a pot or a resistor?
also what would power all 5 ? or better to just get a single driver to power the 5th?
thanks for ur help

You need a HLG-240H-C1400A or B to power 5 CXB3590's in series. Call the vendor and tell him he's should go back to school but before he should change the driver against the right one.
You need at least 175vdc to drive 5 CXB's in series(@1,4Amps)...

And for dimming...
You only need a 100k poti but he should have ~110k to get all watts available. If yours is for instance only 101k you can add a 10k resistor to get the desired 110k.

You should use a 100K pot and a 5K resistor. I've used 5.5K.

thanks for the quick reply i e-mailed vendor awaiting answer. i have a B100k pot so i should get a 5k resistor or the 10k for it? im gonna try to get him to send replacement

Do you have a multimeter to check the poti's resistance? These cheap B100k poti's vary a lot, from 90-110k is all possible. Usually HLG drivers can deliver up to 108% depending on model. To use all the power possible you need at least a 108k potentiometer. If yours is only 90k you need to add a 20k resistor. If you have no resistor you can also add a 2 pole on/off switch to the dimming circuit. When switched off the driver would run with no limits, for a HLG-240 this means with up to 280w.

yes i do !!! im going to try after work. thanks for the help. Is it bad for driver to be run no limit ? just curious.
