If only I had the extra loot sitting around, I'd grab 6, and remodel my 8x4 with them.
excuse me for forgetting, but dont you have the A51RW? im starting to see more talk about the all white and SDS I believe saying to supplement with other spectrums. I would check your grows but im on my phone with awful signal for awhile.

induction has been around since the 1880's and leds have been around since the 1920's.. Its the cost of production (parts , labor, insurance, rent, electric bills etc...) and research n development. Plus they need to be able to afford to cover warranties. As the demand grows. The price will lower.
Unfortunately that's not always the case. I hope that's how it will be though. Some companies up the price when demand grows, which is understandable. (not referring to led specifically btw)

I sent a51 and email asking if they knew an approximate date when their new lights might be available.

Im laughing at this post....

by your logic Ferrari's should be cheap as the combustion engine isn't new..
I think leds are more like teslas than ferraris and like tesla 100000 price drops as the tech was more wanted and available. A lot of the led tech is newer and still not accepted by the growing community as a whole, so prices are still high. I think the prices will change a lot at the point that the majority move from hid to led. I bet 1 in maybe 100 growers will even consider using led and even fewer will actually purchase. The numbers are growing but still not there. Remember how expensive digital ballasts were when.they first came out? An mh/hps setup costs about as much as these a51 leds. $250 digi ballast, $170 hood, $100 bulb, the ducting for like 20 bucks, puts you in the $500 range. Add tax and you could pay for an a51 xgs...just sayin

Here I thought DIY led's were the rich mans game. I'm sure they're great, but that's a lot of coin to drop. I'm mildly envious of those of you who can afford to play with such things.

Not as much as you think, I built some CXA3070 Z4's that draw a little more than a Area51 XGS 190 at about 2/3 the cost and are more efficient.

Any one know how much power is going to the XGS's LED's? It draws 195 at the wall and has 72-5 watt LED's. I'm guessing around 160 watts but would like the real number.

ah, thx man. those 3W still pullin good weight I assume :) how it compare to your wonderful xgs?
The 3W'er and the XGS are actually right next to each other in my main flowering tent. Yes, the 3W'er is still putting out some good weight. The XGS is way brighter, but the 3W'er has more red in its spectrum, so the plants under each of those lights are pretty similar, so far. But it is only week 5, I'm sure the XGS will pull ahead, soon enough.

What does this mean for the future of white lights like the xgs190? It's odd that they come out with a popular light using a white spectrum and then their next products revert to r/w. I have an xgs and am thinking of adding another one, but this move at a51 sort of rattles my confidence that is the right thing to do. Thoughts, anyone?

the XGS is an "all round light" (jeffs words)... it will do both fine veg and flower...

and as far as grows that have been done there is more evidence of the performance of the XGS than the newer ones...

Not saying the newer ones are better or worse... they just havent been out for long and people are in the process of using them..

I personally would go the RW... but have a look at what people have done with the XGS... your confidence shouldnt be altered
