Anybody got any ideas of a common soil found in most stores?

Home Depot has Vigoro organic soil, jungle growth soil and shitty ol MG soil. Oh and now they have scotts potting soil.

I would go with either vigoro organic or the scotts. I had pretty decent results with vigoro. If that's all you can get then get you some soil and mix in some perlite and lime and have a new go at it bro :)

The only thing bad with top soil is that you could introduce pests that you can not see. I am going out on a limb here, but if you take the nute filled soil and flush the crap out of it... busting all the nute balls you can... and use a TDS meter to determine if you are actually flushing out the nutes and go from there. Make sure there are no plants in there of course. Also, I have read on here, that it takes 10 times the amount of water to flush out MG soil. So if you are growing in 3 gallon pots then flush the soil prior to planting with 30 gallons of water. The nute balls are varied in coating that thins with certain amount of water, allowing the nutes to be 'time released'. This is crazy and may not even work, but it is better than nothing. You also need pots that are not translucent. Another tip on CFL growing is to have the sides of the bulbs face the plant rather than the bottoms, you will get more lumen that way. Good luck!

Ok so i picked up some of scotts moisture control potiing soil, i put my seeds to germinate last night im thinking about what size pots i can use i was using gallons of milk as pots because they fit 6 perfectly in my grow area, is this good for 2-3ft plants i cant have em too tall so im hooing i can use those. I know yall said about the jugs being see through and light hitting the roots but they fit so perfectly that the light hits the plants and dirt question being are the milk jugs good enough?

Will they work? Sure yes but you are going to have to do a little modifying in order for them to work. You are going to need to paint them or put tape around them but just make sure it reflects light not absorb or let it through. That's what's wrong with the milk jugs. The roots are able to be be seen by the light causing all kinds of problems that you don't want. Just use some reflective tape or flat white paint if you are set on using those for your pots.

I haven't used the scotts moisture control but I have used scott's all purpose hyponex soil and had decent results. I'm not sure what your cash flow is like or how much you have to spend but I suggest spending a little bit of money on some good soil. You can always order online man.

If you have no cash flow or extra then you can just paint them or tape them and they should work ok. Just make sure they have drain holes at the bottom.

Best of luck to ya man!
