ytea man i totally agree with using the hps as a heater if ur in a cold area lol. Now heres a q for you to look into before you go to 250w Standard MH consider CMH i am not sure if its the same with LED BUT, when used in conjunction with HPS you CANNOT use CMH for veg and HPS for flower you must COMBINE them and run both lights at the same time or the spectrum change of light is so extreme that it will HERM your plants so my question is does this stand true for CMH/LED in combo because CMH would be better for your setup than MH because they veg plants better than standard MH and also flower better. They put out more UV than standard MH as well. CMH really in my mind is the ONLY style bulb i would use if using HID. Something for you to consider as i may have to do the same thing soon because i would like to have my room cold enough that the lights keep it barely at 70 degrees or so. I would be using the HID"s as more of a buffer than a heater though because i would be air conning the room down to temp and using the HID's to keep it stable there.
I must say im glad to see you using a blackstar man. It seems that everyone thinks they need to spend a lot of money on LED tech to get a good light. Unfortunately I personally have not found another manufacturer producing as cheap of a product as blackstar or one that is as good for the cheap price. Some of the 800 dollar panels and the 1500 dollar panels my friend has are equal if not a bit better than the blackstar but most people cant seem to reconcile the fact that for WAAAAAY cheaper and maybe 2% less performance they can have a blackstar and not lose out on LED tech. Honestly i see panels dissapearing soon and kessil taking over. there technology is too advanced by comparison and with the prices they have, a little pricey but def competitive when you look at what you get for the price. The LED thread has become a giant bashing game instead of sharing actual facts. It's because the people that bought expensive panels can't get over the fact that our cheap ass ones are decimating.
Keep up the good work brotha lookin forward to a straight LED grow if you can ever get the temps up enough. I been yellin at my partner to let me take pics of our grow so i can shut some of these bashers up. He's just way to fuckin paranoid though. I gotta take pics when hes not around and not tell him lol. Im more than satisfied with my 240 and would not hesitate to swoop another one in a heart beat. Come spring time I will hopefully be able to sustain a 75 degree temp in there by pumping warm air in.
Long story short: CMH rocks, however I see a lot of overlapping with LED spectrum with that. I am probably going to mix 250MH's and 240LEDs. They compliment the spectrum more than over lap. Also, I am not sure of this, but I know that MH pumps out a considerable amount of UVB, which is my main concern. I just want the UV from the LED to join forces with the MH. I think that people really give MH's a worse rap than LED's. I think that MH's rock fucking hard as hell. I think that HPS are over used. They should be just for flower and nothing else. I hate when I see people vegging under HPS. What a waste of bulb life.
I was looking at CMH, I know that silica additives are real important with them, I just don't want to go crazy all at once. I gotta go out and find 250W magnetic HPS ballasts then and that usually adds on to cost. I want to see an old school MH meet the LED. UVB = Trichs galore, LED = Red bolstering to tighten buds. I really want to see what 7500K of MH and the LED wavelengths do to bud. I predict massive trichs and stupid good bud. CMH is the proven king of HID, out of the fact that you are maxed out at 600W. (which is probably a good thing seeing as how multi-600's are the best way to light)

i didnt know they even made CMH in over 400w bulbs. But yeah CMH is king of HID interesting on how you say regular mh may compliment the led's spectrum better less unusable light then huh? I agree about the HPS for flower only however sometimes you just have to use what ya got ya know? But yea basically veg under HPS is a waste of bulb life i'd almost rather go CFL depending on how many CFL"s i had to run. Yeah MH puts out MAD uv lighting Very curious to see this as well as i may consider going this way once i can get out of my partners house and into my own or move us both into a bigger house where we are paying te power bill ourselves not his roomates that dont know about the grow lol. You can see the conundrum that i had when setting this up. I had to crop enough for two people a month every month on continual and yet keep power usage under a 4-600w hps LOL including all the venting my veg tent my two flower booths lol all the pumps and shit. But we did it barely by the skin of our teeth but that is the main reason why we have not tried to supplement with MH as i have been considering that as a better option to supplement with than HPS and i wanted to do it just for a test you know. i think a 500w panel vs a 240w panel with supplemental 250w MH would be a sick test to run.
im on my first LED run through and my third or fourth run through that i have either done myself or helped someone do. Im pretty fresh at this too i just happen to be good with plants kinda naturally so my learning curve is faster than that of some of my friends so i also get a lot of XP from runnin around helpin them with their shit as well as workin on mine.

Just weighed the buds finally. several days into cure, probably expecting no more than 10% more loss in weight. Can out to 9.79 ounces. Not too bad, def on the high end of my estimate spectrum.

That was 1000W HPS and a 500W blackstar. I currently have 4 Jock Horrors, 5 Wonder Woman, and 1 NYPD Clone (got bored) under the same 1000W HPS, 500W Blackstar and a 240W Blackstar. in a roughly 4x6 area. Pretty bright in there.

Blackstars are a LED brand. They are really good and pretty cheap (especially in comparison to a lot of other brands).

The wonder woman is pretty awesome. Fast mother fucker in veg. I had them under a 1000W MH and they exploded. Eventually my jock horror caught up, but for about 3 weeks the wonder woman was crapping all other the jock. The bud structure for the WW is very similar to the NYPD, just larger and denser. I have about 3 weeks left on the fuckers and just got done burning the living shit out of them two weeks ago (totally my fault - saw a Mg def and thought it was a P def ended up burning the plants with the P, flushing them and now finally got some Mg in them), but other than that they are pretty hardy. I would expect them to at least give me 2 zips per plant, at minimum. Well see. Def not a lot of pop corn bud on them.
What other strains are you looking into from nirvana? I am torn between full moon, aurora indica, and bubblicious. I have some white widow but I think I'll hold on to that and wait for outdoor season.

YO if you live anywhere around suffern, NY show up in person. When I went back to NY for the holidays I showed up with cash and got a steal. saved 60 bucks on the 500W and 25 bucks on the 240, and that was separately. Call up, talk to VIctor, (eastern european accent - Polish, Ukrainian, Russian?) Get multiple at once, and do that shit up. Hold on to your ass and see what happens to my rooms by the beginning of march.

Already ordered Wonder Woman because it sounds cool and looks awesome, and 'Chrystal' because that is my wifes name and we have never seen it spelled like that anywhere but her name...looked pretty cool too. I know I know, not exactly scientific but it's so hard to choose when I love them all! Also gettin UFO Bubblegummer and C-99, don't remember from which company.
