Hey, I'm pretty new to growing but Its been in the family for quite sometime. I have a question this is my first somewhat succesfull grow my first one had alot of stretching because I had the wrong lights and they were putting off to much heat long story short I lost all 8 now I have scaled down to six and after germination I started directly in soil instead of the cubes but my question is one of my plants has really taken off but it's short it's about a week and a half old but it's only an inch tall but considering it has between 18 to 20 leaves it is pretty weighted down I'm not complaining because it's bushy I was just wandering if I should be doing something different. My setup is a small closet grow right now with bagseed I'm using cfls and I'm using foxfarm ocean floor soil and some diluted schultz 10-15-10 on the more established one I'm on my phone so I can't post pics right now. Any help is greatly appreciated

I have just germinated some seeds using the paper towel method. transferred to rockwool cubes where they have been for about 6 days under florescent light they all have their first set of leaves 4 to be exact, my 1000 watt mh bulb just got here and i want them to have the most light available. How far away should i Position the seedlings from the light. Also because of issues with one of the tubes in the flourescent lamp I have left the plants on a 24/7 light period and i want to switch to 18 and 6 once i change to the mh lamp, can i do this with out affecting the strains( using femenized seeds cali dream) i also read that the 24hr light cycle can cause an unstable root system because the plants spend so much time in the process of photsynthesis. i do not know if this is true but so if someone can help that would be GREAT!!!

Hi their. First time grower here. Ive been flipped thourgh a bunch of differnt growing forums and thought I'd try you guys out :-P .
My quesiton is, what light would be best for my set up. 2-4 plants (Papaya), in a closet 5'x2'x9'tall. I plan on doing 4 until it gets crowded, than take 2 outside and keep the better 2 inside. And when it comes to floweirng, should I swtich to a differnt bulb, or is their 1 that works both ways. And if so, would I get a better yeild AND quality if I went with 2 different bulbs (1 veg and 1 flowering)?
Im gussing i should get a roll of that mylar paper for the walls. I have fan already. I got to get some type of exhaust fan though to get rid of the extra heat at the top of the closest, and hopefuly cool down the ligth system. Or do I?? What soil would be good. I have right now some 3-1 Spaghnum PeatMoss and Perlite mix. Is that good enough?? Than add nutes after about 4 set of leaves appear? Than the water situation. Im sure water from tap could work, but would it be BETTER if I bought spring or distilled water or whatever. At a $1 a gallon or so, Im not to worried about the cost. IM sure ive got about a million other questions, but these few should get me started for now : )
But Thanx for any help or info with this. Im gonna start doing some looking around now to help answer any of my questions.
Later, :leaf:

Im going to start a hydroponic system, im looking at a flood and drain type....For this style would you recommend pebbles or rockwool to grow the plant in?

Also if i use pebbles how do i go about starting the growth?? do you just put the sprouted seed in amongst the pebbles? or do you have to put it in "something" and then put that "something" in the pebbles? Do you put the rock wool in the pebbles?

Would i be able to grow a plant from start to finish using this http://www.growforce.co.uk/products/838/ebb-and-flood-ef120.html and a grow light with a HPS bulb and MH Bulb? Im only looking to grow the one plant at first as i have very little closet space...http://www.growforce.co.uk/products/831/flo-gro-fg-500.html is another system i was looking at...its a bit smaller, is it too small??? im hoping ill be able to get me a clone of this guy i know

Aloha. Not to sound to stupid,,,but,,,lol.... I have a grow light that is not connected to the ballance. The light has a black and a white wire. The ballance has a black, white, green, and a light green wire,,or turquoise color wire. 4 wires in total. What is connected to what?? Thanks,,,, Rock1999
I believe you are trying to say "ballast". Right? I am an electrician so I am going to help you out here. The black wire coming off both items are called the "Hot" wire. you need to connect those two wires together. The 2 "White" wires are the "Common" or "Nuetral" wire. You also want to connect those two wires together. Because your light has no "green" wire or "ground" wire, you can just leave the 2 green wires off you ballast alone. There should be no shock hazard aslong as you dont have anything touching water.

Again, connect the 2 black wires to each other. And connect the 2 white wires together. That simple.

Start out with 1" rockwool cubes. After you get a strong root structure going then go into the pebbles.

How do you repair low pH in soil?

Everything was fine until I used some new nutes and didn't measure it before I used it like an idiot. Fox farms soil, backyard dirt and miracle grow organic choice. There is no lime in the soil mix.

I got some pH up and down from the pet store and adjusted tap water to @7.0 and gave 1/2 gal per 5 gal buckets yesterday but it is still registering 5.0 inside the soil.

Should I flush this more? Use more water when I flush than 1/2 gallon? Is there any chance of root rot by doing this ? Temp is @80 continuously and 50-60% RH. It is showing serious signs of lockout especially Potassium.

Thanks for anybody who knows the answer.

I have a few plants from seed in 4x4 rock wool cubes that are about 8" tall . They are in a flood and drain 2x4 basin. I want to transplant them into a 3 gal bucket ebb and grow system, with clay pellets, when they reach about 18" high for flowering. Two questions.
1. What should I do if the roots start poking out from the bottom before they reach my transplant height?
2. When it does get to be transplant time how should I place them in the ebb and grow buckets?(clay pellets) thanks for any help you can provide.........
