Hey guys almost at the end of my first grow. have some Deadhead OG and Bluedream. They are on day 58 and the bluedream will be another week or 2 but Deadhead is an 8 week strain but I have no scope to check the trichs. Can you tell how much longer I have just from these pictures?

If you can't get your hands on a $10 scope then I would wait until just about all the hairs have receded into the bud and you have not noticed any more bud swell. But I would splurge on the scope...

have a camera? take a few close up shot of the trichromes and load them on a computer viewer and zoom in - GL

Picked up a 60-100x scope from radio shack but it didn't tell me much. I found clear cloudy and amber triches but am still holding off until all or almost all the hairs recede. weill be watching closely every night.

you dont need a 30x thats just ridiculous...

i normally chop when its 50 % clear 50 % cloud.

Very nice. Some people use the 50% colored hairs and 50% white hairs if they dont or dont want to use microscope.

Can anyone confirm this? never heard this before and think you would want closer to 80%+ red hairs.

what people?

50% clear is too much, that I know. I believe the goal is to get as many cloudy as possible for max potency. I had a little accident in the grow room and a fan fell and took out one of my girls 2-3 weeks early. She had decent bud development and had about 50% clear 50% cloudy but after a week she still smells like hay and the high is very heady and give me a headache if i take more than a hit or two. That's not the high im going for.

I shoot for the majority cloudy trics, in all likelihood you will have some amber by this point too. Chopping with 50% clear trics is a waste IMO.

freedom of choice my friend ;)
To each their own! Is it the effect of the clear trics you like or are you just impatient? If you like a heady/uppy high try finding a strain wiht those characteristics and then grow it out until it is really done, you will be pleasantly surprised.

you are free to chop when you want. However do urge you to as Roc suggested and find a good sativa dominate and grow it full term. You will get the same head high but will have better smell taste and potency. Will post come Day 60 pics tonight when lights come on. I originally thought the Deadhead would be done a full week before Bluedream but looks like they may be done only days apart now.

Man I dont want to offend anyone, but I think that checking trichs is a buncha BULLSH*T! Just because your trichs are mostly cloudy/amber does not necessarily mean that your BUDS are READY......I like to wait until my buds just LOOK finished its not that hard to tell once you get a couple grows under your belt but to answer your question your DeadHead looks about ready to me....I'd say give her another week or maybe less its up to you......Looks good by the way!

Ganjaman, I am starting to think this as well. I grabbed a scope and noticed according to my triches alone I should have harvested almost a week ago but the girls just dont look ready. I think the overall look of the buds is more important as you say. Im waiting the hairs to turn orange and stop sticking straight up.

Well you have to think about what's getting you high. It's the triches. While a plant may look finished(hairs receded, etc) if it has 50/50 clear/cloudy then it's not ready. The opposite isn't true though. Trichome maturity directly relates to thc content. I'll agree that AFTER you've checked the triches and you know what a finished plant looks like then by all means go by the look for future grows. For a new grower though who doesn't know what a "finished" plant looks like triches are the best way to go.
