John,

Yeah, we made cannabis butter (cannabutter) with all the leaf trimmings. You take your trimmings and simmer them in a pot with butter for 16+ hours, strain the mixture thats left over through a cheesecloth or some other form of strainer to get rid of whats left of the leaf materials, and put the bowl with the remaining liquid in the fridge to congeal. Once it's solidified you skim off the whitish stuff from the top and what you have left is cannabutter. I probably forgot a few steps, but I'm not the one that did the cooking. I just found the recipe for her. :)

Riddle,

I must have missed part of the discussion. When did elevated P levels during flowering become a bad thing? I agree that you don't want to go with nute mixtures that have really high P and low N, but everything I've ever read indicated that cannabis needed to have more P then N during flowering for bud production. The problem I see is that people push the P so much that they are out of balance with the N and K and you end up with either nute deciencies, or nute lock.

I decided to try something new today. Last week I noticed that I had another batch of spider mites on one of my plants, and this time the neem oil didn't knock them back very well. I had moved the plant away from the others and gave them all a spraying with the oil just in case, but as of this morning I noticed that the little bastards had managed to migrate to another plant. Well, I'm sick of dealing with these stupid things, so I decided that it was about time to get serious about spider mite eradication. As of about three hours ago there are approximately 2000 lady bugs loose in my grow area, and if they don't solve my problem nothing will. I read on some website that a single lady bug can eat up to 500 mites and 1000 eggs a day, so I'll be highly surprised if theres a single mite left alive anywhere on that level of the house by Wednesday.

Hey Ed

Well let's see the article I posted (and not sure I remember where?) was about how ferts have so much P for outside use because of how it leeches out of the soil easily and how over the years has been diminished, with the onset of container gardening this formula (or way of thinking didn't change, until recently)

then there is the UB thread about the abuse of high P bloom foods

also the regular gardening thread at gardenweb by Al Tapla basically saying the same thing and stating that a 3-1-2 ratio is better

and finally the actual test that bigmike did in the video I watched after signing up for the info where they tested actual MJ leaf samples indicating that the plant uses way more N & K during both veg and flower than P (why AN does not have a high P profile) which falls in line with what tapla says about all known plants that have been tested

The basic notion is to simply reduce the ammount of N and boost the K a bit when going into flower which changes the ratio to a 2-1-3, which was why I was so happy about the Jack's Pro line up because those ratios are available without paying for custom blending (seems Jack's is onto this ditty as well)

So this is where I'm gona be headin in my next grow, done the research now gotta see it work

Ah, ok. I remember reading some of those threads/articles, I just never really reached a conclusion of my own and the whole subject slipped my mind. I have to admit, when i forgot to add the bloom nutes to my water a few weeks back for three consecutive waterings I really didn't notice much difference in bud production on the plants, so I'm going to have to do look at this subject a bit more closely.

Well the one little seed that was a sinker has sprouted after 2 and a half days in the glass of water , delighted to say the least lol. Now in a styro cup a heated propagator, since its all alone in there I poured a little of the water that it had been soaking in into the channel that runs around the inside edge of the propagator so it doesn't dry out.

It looks like I'm going to have to scrap the T9 idea :cuss:, apparently I need to build a ballast if I want to run it with leads like yours and that ain't happening!! Trying to find out if I can use a CMH. As far as I can make out, I'll need a 400w HPS ballast and reflector (not digital!) and just use the CMH bulb instead of the HPS bulb. BUT .. after 2 days of googling I can't find one in Europe :wall:, well not like the one you showed riddle, and I don't know if the US one can be used here because of the voltage thingy, grrrr why can't it all just be the same lol. So it looks like I'll be going with a Sonlight Agro 400w which is HPS but with a bit extra blue spectrum so I can use it for veg and flowering, still going to keep an eye out for that CMH tho. Now I gotta go think about heat extraction  ....

Just wanted to share that I have picked my new Jack's nutes based on the water I am gettin out of the tap, I will be using K-Trate 15-5-38 for flower

But even tough I feel that is the best choice I am going to ask them for samples of several to experiment with, I will let you know what they say

I think I may have found my CMH answer (we need a praying smiley thingy ).

I've already been following daniels fridge grow as I was thinking of doing the same thing myself in the future, not sure what you were asking me to look at gumball but thank you for taking the time to answer me, I would call myself technically illiterate and I have a hard time understanding specs etc, but I battle on. Anyways, after further googling I stumbled across this website http://advancedtechlighting.com/cmhmain.htm where they have the ED 17 (which is pulse start, huh wth is that????) and the ED 18 which can go into a standard HPS ballast. After further googling to see if this bulb was available here I found this little gem 'New Philips Ceramalux/ALTO C400S51/ALTO 400w HPS Lamp with ED18 Bulb Note: This Lamp can be operated on a European 400 watt SON Ballast plus Electronic Ignitor, and a US E39 Lampholder.' Hallelujah!! I think . I've sent them an email to find it if this is indeed correct, will let you know what they say. Then I've got to start the googling to find that ballast, it's never ending, at least it keeps me busy and not wishing my baby was grown already :weed:!

The baby got a present of a temp and humidity monitor today, its meant for a baby's room and has a very unhappy looking baby on the monitor coz the temp is 28C (sry I can only compute in metric) and humidity is 80%, this is in the propagator and no sign of anything emerging yet, seems nice n cozy for a seed though .

How many watts are you wanting emerald? The link I posted was to a post I made on daniels thread. This post had other links to where I posted what I found out about cmh's. Since the site update thread searches suck, and I can't remember where everything has been posted. I liked the philips ed17 for the lower wattages, less than 150.

I'm probably going to go with the 400w, for no other reason than a 400w HPS would be ideal for me as I'll only be growing a max of 3 plants at any one time after this first grow, I'm kinda being a sheep and just following what other ppl are doing because I really don't understand the difference between the higher and lower wattages.

Hey, if it works for you go with it. I only hAve like 4sq ft, so I don't need nor could I accommodate that big a bulb. Good luck.

Erm ... LOL

I'm planning on an even smaller area around 3sq ft. Seems I need to go back and restudy lighting!!

On a good note the 250W ED 18 will also work on the same 250W ballast I mentioned earlier .... back to the drawing board ...

Well just make sure you know what your dealing with before you start. Most of us stealth cab growers have heat issues, me included! I am actually working on a 12volt thermoelectric air conditioner to mount over my intake and exhaust ports. Interesting???

It's a good thing googling is free!! And yes that looks very interesting indeed!!!! MORE study!!

Little did I know when I smoked the last of that skanky commercial weed which made me decide to go DIY that I would be studying botany, horticulture, chemistry, physics, electronics, carpentry and on and on and on. All I wanted was a little smoke I could call my own ! I don't need to be 100% stealth if I keep it indoors, I will be able to leave doors open etc but then I may have the smell problem invading the entire house, it's never plain sailing! As much as I want to do this 'right' IMO I think a lot of this steep learning curve is trial and error and the key is not to go to pieces if/when things start to go wrong. I've already learnt SO much from the people here and on other threads and even though it can be overwhelming and confusing at times (serious brain pain!), I'm still going to have a go. So again, thank you to all that contribute their knowledge.

Yeah, indoor growing is no joke. If you have to add stealth its worse. But for smell, go ona, and save for a good commercial, quiet, fan filter combo and hope for low odor strains. Diy carbon filters are great, but these commercial units are tested and tried and true for this specific purpose. But still use a fan, just no filter, IMO. I removed my carbon filter altogether with ona and its great. I even put it in my drying areas, even better. And the biggest thing I learnt from my first bit of indoor grows, water is your friend, meaning if the plant has a problem, just stick with plain water till you fix or figure out the problem. Good luck mate, and let us know if you need some help.

Close in less than 3 weeks, so new garden sometime in july and the waiting torture is way higher for me, as it is killing me to look at all these pic's and have to wait, but in the end the wait will be very much worth it and I know this (what's keepin me sane)

and not only growin cause we gonna do some breedin too

If you are in a Legal state all the googling is fine......but, if you are in a state that frowns on it , all the searching could actually wind up quite expensive, why do you think our president likes the net so much? everything you do leaves a IP#, and especialy if you stay logged into your email, thats how all these spam BS get to you , they pick up your name and email when you go to certain sites.

IDK all I am saying is be leary, even on this site the main page was talking about how these cops were following online orders to growers houses and hitting the the companies that sold the "growing equipment". To the govnt, the web is a BIG phone line, and they don't need a warrant to follow online activity.

Even on our "old school" "land lines" , there is a main frame everything goes through(multipul hubs) , key words trigger certain interests in " other ears"

call me paranoid, but I know for a fact this stuff is true, my father in law is a "master fiber op" for verizon, he knows allll about this and was the one who warned me.

i agree to be weary...

but if the govt really wanted you or emerald or i, then they would just come and get us. i am not in a legal, and I know I have posted enough that if they knew where I was I could get got.

all i am saying, is dont let the paranoia rule you either. if they want to give me 1-5 years in jail for my little shit of a grow, then let 'em come and get me. i wont let them get me down!!

i do agree though, they could do all they want, and probably come get us all if they wanted. good thing they are busy cleaning an oil spill!!! i know, not funny...

wanted to share a bit of info since I listed the seeds/strains I ordered and the freebies I got

Tilders was a KC Brains NorthernLightsSpecial she was a cross between Sensi's NorthernLights #1 (which I ordered) and a Haze

Sensi's NorthernLights #1 was a the strain that started what we all know today and in some way is prolly a part of most known strains

and yes KC Brains seeds are some of the cheapest you can get but I want to share a tip with you The Attitude list several KC strains that are not listed on KC's website once I learned this I changed my order to include "current" strains that ARE listed on KC's website

I was going to get Brain Damage and Cyber Crystal until I found out they were "retired" strains IMO best to go with fresh seeds

I like KC's strains not only because they are cheap, he has also had several cup winners (Tilders won in 2004) but because he breeds for a heavy couchlock which I like

So once again now you know what I know
