Hello. This is my first serious grow. I bought 5 Papaya seeds from nirvana, planted them in some jiffy cups that were already moist and watered them a bit more. I got 4 out 5 to sprout. But one of the sprouts which is dead now took a dive suddenly after looking quite healthy. I didn't germinate these at all just soaked them in water about 6 hrs before planting. I did freak out with the water though and watered about every other day. Anyway I'll post a pic and tell me what y'all think?

make sure you have good drainage and water them every 3 to 4 days as needed you can tell by the weight of your cups if the need water or not and most of the time if your leafs are laying down and not standing up she needs water but best practice is every 3 to 4 days

The stem rot that it looks like you have can be caused by a combination of overwatering, high humidity and lack of air movement. Make sure you have a fan moving air past your plants, and easy on the water next time. Peace

Oh thanks. Yeah there was definitely stem rot. The humidity was around 31-35 %. Lack of airflow sounds about right also. They are in a cabinet in a basement with one window. I have a fan blowing fresh air from the window now. And the intake fan on the cab is set to kick on for 30 min every hour and a half. It's set this way so it doesn't get too cool when the fans blow which when they do temp goes from 80 to 73.

Yeah man. I overwatered and didn't have proper air circulation or enough fresh air. Then again these Papaya seeds seem hard to grow. Here's a couple more pics coming up on 2 weeks this fri. Papaya in front with some super skunk in the back.

Google and read about "damping off". It's an assortment of fungi that cause stem/root rot and can occur at low humidities.

"papaya" seeds from the company nirvana aren't stabilized. Don't buy them.

I just bought them because they described them having a narcotic effect and that just sounded fun.

These seeds have been a pain in the ass. They grow short, slow and retarded; as you can see from my pics. Look at the one with half a leaf. I dug into the soil and realized half a seed grew from that bastard. Basically the seed split early on and half went one way and the other sprouted into a retarded mess. I wish my homo friend could come in and describe this.
