i've also moved away from autos.. they were ok.. just doesn't make sense running your lights throughout its entire 2-3 month lifecycle on 18 hours of light.. unless you have some spare room in a mum/veg chamber..

No love for autos here. The big advantage with autoflowers is you can run a perpetual in one chamber and easily harvest different strains every 5 weeks.

well read then.. and learn..
that's how most people learn..
and by doing..

everyone is going to give there opinion of what works best for them..
you need to figure out what works best for you..

you need to decide.. some basics.. organic vs non organic..
medium? soil? coco? rockwool? hydroton?
growing methods/systems etc..

well pointed!

All I got is a closet, I run 20/4 but really don't mind the extra electricity. That's why I don't see the point of switching to 12/12.

are you running CFL?

for some people running 2000w+ 20 hours costs a lot more than running it at 12..

my average so far is 5oz per plant at 12/12 .. granted i've only just started with 12.12 from seed.. most could still expect at least 2oz if they have any kind of basic skills in a garden
del recently pulled just under 1,800g wet of a single cola hump of bud.. i think the bubblebomb is just perfectly designed for it..

I got a 400w hps and 184w of 2700k cfls. Actually I think I've just decided to try 12/12 after my current ones are done in April. I'm going to do it so the lights can be off from 8-8 and and keep temperatures more even.

About how tall do they get on average? I'm planning on using a 2 smart gallon pot.

hello peeps..........if you dont want to grow trees, if you want to save electric, if you want to save on heat during the hot times , if you want to keep it simple, if you can use a reasonable amount of light, i prefer 250 watts and up, more the better.............then i have to say 12-12 from seed...no way autos.......the few failures are spotted early and easily and replaced if needed............the winners make it all worth while...............heres a few of my 12-12 from seed girls...........:weed:

i wasnt saying 12/12 from seed is a bad option. just simply stating it wasnt my thing.

personally i think the original poster should claim a few bagseeds and try his hand at some regular growing see how it all works out. if he wants to buy seeds i just think that for a beginner a 18/6 to 12/12 would be better as he can see how the plant grows in normal vegatative stage. either way it makes no difference to me what he does

What type of soil is good for the first grow?
What fertilizers should I use?

if you want my advice just take a stroll through my journal and check out my updates. i put all the details of my grow in my thread.

if you want to just go with a bag of soil i suggest Fox farm's Light warrior for seedlings and then upgrade to either fox farm ocean forest or fox farm happy frog potting soils, you will want to pick up a good sized bag of Organic perilite( i say organic because it is plain jane perilite nothing added) the MG perilte seemed too hot for my last batch of plants so i wont recomend it, others may have had good sucess with it i did not.

as far as nutrients go it depends wether you want to go chemical or organic, cheap or expensive.

alot of people swear by the fox farm trio which will give you detailed directions how to dose througout your grow, i have never used them before so i have no opinion on them.

if your going to go organic its not a bad idea to brew up a worm casting tea ahead of time and treat your soil with it prior to planting this way your microbiology is established and you have some nice rich soil. i am doing my first attempt at organic growing this round so i by far do not have all the answers and really cannot say what is good and what is bad.

if you want to see how im making out then stroll through my journal and see what im doing , that really all i have to offer man, i am by far a expert grower and really dont like giving advice on every detail of a grow as i dont really know myself.

like i said above i suggest grabbing up some bagseeds and giving it a go around with them before you place a order to a seedbank, your first grow your going to run into problems and thats a good thing as it will give you some experience on all the different aspects of a full grow that no one on here can offer (pretty hard to give someone experience through a forum thread)

im here for the ride and will be more than happy to lend my advice/experience/opinions but they are just that, they are MY experiences/advice/opinions

lets get some dirt and a grow journal started, also some pics of your setup and what you plan on doing. im sure there are other members of RIU that will come by to lend a hand as well.
