Nugs, those buds are so beautiful that any of the shots would get noticed and get a double take. I liked 1 and 4 from the original set cause I didn't see as much of the bud getting out of the focal zone on the side and bottom. I think when you throw that separate flash up and have it rake across from one side or the other a little, with buds like that you will have truly killer shots...both because you'll have more pop with the light separating the bud from the background, perhaps even a little rim lighting effect and some reflections off crystals, and also more light will let you get a little more depth of field so all those nice calyxes and the front sugar leaves are more or less in focus...I've found an approach I like using both the ring light and a flash coming from an angle or the side, setting the cam on manual, stopping down enough just to get the whole bud in focus (like f/11 to f/20, I use a dof calculator app on the phone) and setting shutter speed fast enough to prevent blur (like 1/60 even tho it's on a tripod), then adjusting the flash to give you the amount of light you need (instead of letting the shutter speed/aperture do that) gives good results...

the very most important thing you can do.....brew up some bennie tea, empty out your base soil bags, wet the base soil down with the tea, put it in a trash can, and let it activate along side your super soil.....base soils can benifit HUGE with some bennie muscle too! Don't use raw base soil!......cook that shit!
Nugs,
I first want to say that what your doing here is amazing...I've been lurking in the shadows here for some time trying to soak up as much knowledge from you and Sub as possible while I'm working on building my lab . The fact that you guys take so much time out of your days to teach and document your trade is awesome, I have great respect for you and Sub for trying to help others grow the cleanest and best dank around. As soon as I get my Lab set up I hope to learn and contribute to this great community with you guys. The reason for my first post here is I currently have my SS cooking and wanted to follow your lead on cooking my base alongside it so was wondering if you could elaborate on your previous post above from about a week ago. I've done a lot of research the past few days on compost/organic tea's and it seems that all the recipe's out there are for feeding Veg or Flower. If you wouldn't mind could you please give a detailed description of you method and the ingredients/quantity you use in your bennie tea that you soak the base down with? Thanks in advance bro

i look at it this way, i want to add a whole bunch of micros to start breaking down the soil.......and create an "elixer" type tea....something not really specific to phase, but something beneficial in all phases........so i just throw 4 T of comfrey powder, 4 T of sucanat, 4 T of high P guano, and two cups castings in a tea bag, and steep in 4 gallons of water with two big air stones for a good 48 hours to grow a healthy herd.....

.....it is not a strong fertilizer per say, but it has everything in it as an all around elixer.......N and bennies galore in the castings, micro nutes and carbs in the sugar, bennies and P in the guano, and the comfrey is the bio-catalyst....and it is loaded with K, Calcium, Iron, micro nutes, and enzymes.....and also a substance called allantoin, which helps with stress, disease resistance, and healing.....brew this up, and use it not only to inoculate your base and super soil, but as a little boost of goodness from the earth at any time, in any phase.....happy growing....you will be amazed at what activating your base soil can do!....nugs

the earth is your bottle...
......i no longer use bottles......i am anti-bottle...i do what ever it takes to give my plants everything they need without me having to unscrew a cap........i am finding myself not only searching for my ingredients close by (i.e Amish soil mix), but also trying to find as much as i can on the property where i call home......i am in the process of building, and installing bat houses, with a collection area, and i also make my own castings, so i can control what goes into them, and ultimately what is fed to my plants.......i don't use blood or bone, because i grew up in farm country, and am well schooled on what we pump into those poor cows (another story, another time)....i use guanos instead.....anyways, i still have to buy my high P guano, fish bone meal, dolomite, and azomite......and of course my base, but really thats about it......

......i have recently discovered the miraculous properties of a very common plant....Comfrey......this plant is amazing in and of itself, and is my alternative to any sea vegetable (i.e kelp)......this plant is loaded with N, K, Cal, Mg, Iron, and micro nutes galore.....it also is a Dynamic Accumulator, which are plants that mine nutrients from the soil through their roots, and store them in their plant bodies......and if that wasn't enough, it is a enzymatic catalyst, and contains a substance called allotoin, which heals damaged plant, and animal (skin) cells!.......it is also known to have a unique symbiotic relationship with mike fungi, helping it colonize within, and beyond it's root zone.........hells yeah!....this plant has it all, and it grows all over the globe.......

....i happen to have a patch in the garden, and thought i would share how i harvest, and use it in my "elixer" teas.........you can make a stinky tea using it green, and letting it rot.....but i find drying it is better for me........using the sun, a coffee bean grinder, and a food processor, i get it processed down to an easily absorbable powder, then use it along with my guano, castings, and sucanat to make a very benificial tea to use in all phases of plant development......i also plan to use it in place of kelp in my next super soil mixing project.........have a dank day.....nugbuckets

So how much comrey will you put into your SS, Nugs?

As well, I've been thinking, and I bet you could become the worlds largest rep/distributor of Amish Soil... I know a few nerds that would probably buy you out :) Hope you're having a good one. :peace:

nvm nugs i was being lazy, i found it...

they say its kind of an invasive plant, as long as there is a piece of the root left it will grow back...is that why you have it planted all by itself?

i already have our local grow shop carrying it, and it is blowing up.....i should have negotiated a commision!....i suppose it is my contribution for not spending any more of my money there anymore!......i need to do a little testing to determine the amount to use in my soil....

it is very powerful plant, and very aggresive, i hack it down to the ground and it is back up ready to cut in a month.....you would need a backhoe to get rid of it! i harvest it three times through the spring/summer/fall....all one needs is a small patch...i share it with a friend who makes healing salves with it....it will cure any skin affliction imo.

glad to see your making comfrey tea! another form of wild vegetation i like to use, is stinging nettles. a handful of dried nettles in a gallon of water. let set for a few days, sift and dilute 20:1 for a powerful foliar.
