Nutes in Seedlings....

Ok, so I was a little impatient and forgot that you should not nute the res water for the first few weeks.

Heres my situation,

I started two seeds in two rockwool cubes, got the root out about 1" and the seedlings were at about 3". I placed them in my net pot, added the hydroton, and like a idiot, I added nutes to my res. At the time, the seedlings were about 1 week ok, from seed to seedling.

At this point they are an additional week old. So is that two weeks old? or 1 week considering thats when i placed them in....

I see no issues atm. Im using CNS17 grow. in 5 gal dwc buckets. DIY, btw.

Should I be worried? or did I dodge a bullet? Because I see no issues right now, no nute burn, or at least i can see anyting, the roots are looking great, nice and white. Pics will come later.

I think you are doing OK. Seedlings aparently dont like nutes, but I think you really have to put a lot in to kill them. I grew a lot of different plants I didn't care that much about straight in potting soil that always contains some nutes, and never had them burnt or anything.

Thats what ive been reading is that they do not like them and you should not "waste" your nutes with em. And really it dawned to me that I did add it, a little face palm moment on my end.

i believe i just did the same. i immediately put them in rockwool cubes in my dwc + top feed setup with Root 66 and Sugar Daddy nutes from Technaflora and began top feeding them. they sprouted and look healthy but im constantly seeing on here that its bad for seedlings so im gonna dump the rez and until i see roots reach the bottom of the rockwool cube is when ill fill up my netcups with rinsed* (ph level water(5.6-5.8) hydroton rocks and start top dripping for 15min straight every 2hrs with just ph'd water to as close as 5.6-5.8. now here's my question from here...when do i know to start adding nutes to the water? am i looking for something specific on my plants? does anyone have a picture theyd be able to share to show the beginning point of topfeeding nutes?

* - my first run when i put them in my setup right away with the nutes i noticed my hydroton rocks were slightly dusty. idk if this is normal or not, but i attached a photo of this dirt/dust material that formed on the bottom of my rez. idk if its the dust from the hydroton rocks or from the nutes just being wrong or what. i also attached a pic of what i feel like the dust material did to the plants rockwool cubes. is it still safe to drain rez and clean it and start process over with just water until its time to start adding nutes with these same rockwool cubes?

PS-dirtyjerzey, i hope whoever knows what they're doing can answer these questions as i feel we may have some of the same problems. I hope this all makes sense right now, im :bigjoint:

PS #2- my seeds are autoflower+fem, is there a different time frame until you start feeding nutes then normal seeds?

Green Thumb, Yes i believe its safe to dump the re and start a flush. Someone here to comment?

Did you rinse your hydroton before using them in any way? I did, and I have read thats what you should always do. Also, Ive heard that you should leave your seedling ROOT out of the cube about 1" before you place in your DWC system. I say root because by the time mine did the seedling was 3" tall.

I know nothing about top fed systems, sorry.

here is an example for you. both are in my closet right now. first one went on 1/4 nutes as soon as I put in bucket. second one is still on ph water only. I usually put in buckets 2 or 3 days after popping. I usually wait 1 week before I give 1/4 nutes. this is how I do it. not for everyone as you will learn some things are preference. I just tried nutes right away on the one to just see. I'm sure there are different opinions for this. a you can see I burnt the one I put on nutes right away. but you will also see some strains show some def. before you give nutes. no need to panic. you will find what works.

Thanks for the replies guys.

i dumped and cleaned the rez and am doing a serious soak/rinse of the hydroton rocks. i never knew to rinse them, hopefully all is salvageable. my 4th seedling sprouted weird coming out of the rockwool cube and bent and snapped...not sure if that normal, i believe i put it in the cube the correct way, i could be wrong but i just put another seed into germination hoping only a few days apart wont be much trouble. i haulted all nutrient feeding and am just keep them in moist rockwool cubes until the root is 1" from the bottom of the rockwool cube.

it looks as if i may have burned 1 of the plants slightly, will she jump back from that or is that permanent? its really the tiniest little yellow marking on only 1 tip of the sprouting leaves.

Thanks again for all the info guys
